A neighbour of mine has come to me because he cannot start his car. The green light on the immobliser panel is flashing (which means what?) and as the previous owner is in Hong Kong and is not answering his email, he does not know what to do. The car used to drive without any input on the keyboard so the neighbour was not aware that he had to have a cde. What can he do? It is a petrol injection Onyx with an L reg. brian_primmer@yahoo.co.uk or 01455 553448. I will also continue to monitor Club-XM

Flashing green light, dunno exactly?! (Book mentions flashes green after activating deferred locking, doesn't sound like that's happened here though).

There is a way of overriding the immobiliser which I've heard is a time\number of operations limited fix. Could be that the previous owner has overridden it and it's just reverted back to auto mode?

Hi Brian

Have had a look through a 93/94 owners manual. On cars of this age with a keypad immobiliser there is a neutral mode which prevents ignition locking effectively eliminating the key pad. It is obtained by using the code change sequence and entering code 0000.
Is a key on the key pad stuck down? as the only normal function that flashes the green light is a key press. It might just be worth trying a different keypad. The connector is common on Mk1 & Mk2 pads and I believe they are interchangable.

Hi Craig and All

From the worksop manual (thanks Noz) I have gleened that there are a number of different MK2 keypads. It varied over time and also by country according to equipment specification. On some of the later Mk2's two of the keypad keys were not marked or used. The maintenance instructions for these cars say find an older keypad with the keys present and swap the keypads while resetting the immobiliser then reinstall the orignal keypad.

Hi All

Forgot to log in when I submitted the above.
I am reasonably certain that the actual keypads have no coding embedded in them. I must have looked at about 20 or so including ones I think I was the first to remove. None of these had any security code stickers as the remote control components have. I will try swapping a few keypads over and let you all know the results.

The instruction to insert the 0000 code presupposes you know the original code! The owner asked me to watch while he followed the instruction, but alas the silly b***** had a flat battery so he could not start the car anyway! A quick lesson on battery charging folowed, and I will go back in two day's time. Many thanks meantime for the fantastic response. techmanagain

Hi Brian

I had hoped that the 0000 code had been entered by the previous owner into a working system before the car was handed over. If this was so then it does not expire as far a I know nor dissappear when the battery is disconnected. This 0000 code was dropped by Citroen with the introduction of the Mk2 and replaced with the 1111 garage code which is much more secure. The Mk2 immobiliser can hold 2 separate codes. I suspect that with MK1's the immobiliser can only accept a single code so enabling 0000 to switch off the immobiliser, if this is right there is no need to obtain the original code as it has been reset to 0000 and can be reset on to a chosen number
