I had about an inch of free movement on my previous car due to wear on the universal joint on the column.

Hi,

If the problem is play in the steering then you might like to have a read through a recent thread I contributed to. Its about the fourth time, including my own car, that I have prevented somone going to all the trouble of replacing a steering rack, when all it needed was a tweek on the adjuster. This is why reefurbished rack supplyers are always so keen to get the old rack back. They make a quick £100 for a quick tweek and you supply all the effort in removing and replacing the rack.

Noz, it may be worth moving the thread to the self help files,

Ian

Paul, unless your rack is very bad you don't actually need to buy anything! If you do your local dealer can supply. The plunger is £2 and the retaining bolt about£12

Thanks for the replies everybody. I have a small LHM leak on the steering pinion valve. Luckily during the MOT the tester could only identify a general leak because of the crud in the general area. However when I returned having rectified the causes of the initial MOT failure, a split driveshaft gaiter, my mech had thoroughly cleaned the whole area and he could see the source of the seepage and called me out to show me the site, but because I had rectified the failure problems he passed the car tongue.gif tongue.gif tongue.gif lucky lucky lucky!!
It is the valve kit I need to know about? I saw it listed in the cit manuals CD I bought off the web and have a cit number for it, but does anyone stock them??

Thanks Paul. blink.gif blink.gif blink.gif
