H faeonara,

No problem. The purpose of club-xm is to ask questions and seek help. In time your knowledge will grow and you'll hopefully be able to help someone else.

The window winder failure on the Series 2 models is all too common. The drive cable is far too thin compared to the S1 models and is prone to rust. The other issue is that they changed the bottom pulley with a slider and the turning radius for the cable is too tight. Although not impossible it is unlikely to be the motor. The chances are the cable has become trapped in the mechanism and is preventing the motor from turning.

There's a self help file here to help you fix it:

Hope this helps. Please let us know how you get on.

Cheers

hi thanks for the help, but i dont hear the motor at all when i actuate the switch, i guess i'm going to have to strip the drivers door to see whats up? im fearful of snapping all the plastic trim clips as one door (nsr) is already loose as the previous owner / cowboy had broken them before i bought the car blink.gif

Try the switch first, they have been known to go open circuit. I would have said, swap it with the passenger one but I dont think that they are the same as the drivers side has one touch operation. You can lever the switch out with a screwdriver and then pull the plug off, see if you can borrow one to try.

Hi faeonara,

I've got a couple of spare switches if you need to try one.

Not wishing to appear offensive but you have checked all the relevant fuses?

cheers

hi guys once again thanks
i pulled all the fuses (and lost the radio code hehe) when i was trying to track the abs fault and they were all ok.. i got the switch out but it is a dual action type of course on the drivers side so i couldnt do the swap over trick with passenger side etc... if you let me know how much norrie i will try the switch you have thank you i can always send it back if it isnt that anyhow and i am still trying to get to the bottom of the passenger door mirror. did you look in the garage to see if you have the bits yet?
im in west yorks so its a long way to drive will have to pay you price plus post and packing etc if you have one but i wanna get the niggles sorted in due time..least she aint off the road so i can count my blessings..if anyones feeling stressed go to the aussie frog site and read about the guy who has endured 7000 dollars of bills on his xsara this year alone it will make you glad you own an xm i wished i knew which fuses were which bloody hard without a manual, and hey thanks for the help dont worry bout offending me i know less than a newborn but thanks to you guys imma getting there
