Does any body know if there is likely to be any cables present in the boot lid of a 1998 2.0ct VSX (SALOON) for a 3rd brake light. I know these were somestimes a standard fit on estates.
Cheers Mark

Hi mark,

I have a 98 v6 exclusive that is fitted with a highlevel brake light. I don't know if the hatchloom would include the wiring, it posibly does. A thing I did find recently whilst looking for a trailor wiring fault is that the circuit for the third light loops through a connector behind the righthand side boot trim. ISTR that the connector is where the supply for the bootlight comes out of the main loom, but it also has a loop of white wire that feeds the light. I only found out recently that the reason it is bought down there is that it is possible to fit a relay that breaks the loop when a caravan or trailor is coupled up. This is to prevent the driver from being dazled at night due to reflections back from the white surfaces of the trailor.

P.S. Mark, the name looks familiar. Didn't I buy some 'chest magnets' from you on eBay a few months back?

Hi Mark

You may well find the wiring insitu. The connector for the later type of third brake light is a small black 2 pin connector and takes 5 by 5W bulbs. They first started fitting these from ORG no. 7452. For a car the lamp part No is 6350 J7 and mounting bracket 6326 O7.

I have fitted a 96P estate but did not find any wiring insitu so had to take the supply back to the passenger side body rear light as there is no brake light supply in the opening hatch. For multiplexed cars and estates the manual cautions against fitting any extra brake light that draws more than 25 watts.

Regards

XMexc
