Hello
My name is Paul ( Sinky ) Sinclair. I'm a Scotsman living in Fuengirola,Andalucia,Southern Spain. Look forward to picking your brains on the Xm. I always fancied one so I bought a 1994 XM 2.0 ct Turbo. Grey 158500 km. IV had loads of BXs all models finishing of with the 16 valve x3 which I loved . Always liked the style of the xm. I also run a Renault 21 turbo 1988 and a 1981 Mk 2 Ford granada 2.8 ghia I like my retro motors as you can see Ok iv had the Xm 2 weeks now and I've been using it mainly as a workhorse as I'm moving apartment. It's been great until the other day. My allotted parking space under ground is very very tight to get in with the xm. Whilst manovering to get in the space and at full lock I heard a pop? The next day I have a big pool of Lhm under the front passenger ( UK drivers) side) ???? She's not moved since. Any ideas please. Still love it tho. |

Hi Sinky
Welcome to the forum. Nice looking motor. I have run 2.1 XM estates for over 15 years - wonderful cars. Sounds as though you have a hydraulic pipe failure, with any luck it will be a rubber one but more likely a steel one rusted through I'm afraid. Peter -------------------- Used to have:

Thanks very much.
Hydraulic pipe? Is it still driveable to the garage. Hopefully a rubber one . Rust not a problem down here. Unless it's rusted from the inside out. |

You are likely to have lost your brakes and suspension as well assuming you have lost all your fluid, if not put a litre in, if its not leaking to fast it should get you there.

Eh...how weird is this. It's stopped! Well kind of.
So yesterday went to the car. It's way down low on suspension. Topped up the fluid (LHM) about 400ml suspension went up ok. took it for a run. Stop start town traffic, motorway, Nada? Perfect. Popped the front wheel the side that was leaking uo on a kerb and crawled under . Inside of the wheel and tyre oily? Sump area oily? Sat there for 15 mins. A couple off spots of oil on the road. Sat with the engine off, still the same? I wiped off any oil I could see around the area of the wheel and sump and drove home. Used the car a couple of times after that. Levels good. Car performed fine. This morning, car down low on suspension. I put a white piece of card under the offending area last night. A couple of spots of oil and the area that I cleaned sill looks ok. No warning light and car rises no problem? Sorry peter I didn't lose all my fluid. A fair size puddle tho. 400ml ish This post has been edited by sinky on August 20, 2014 04:43 pm |

Paul,
From the amount you seemed to have lost, it doesn't sound like a metal high-pressure pipe that's opened up. Take a look at the U-shaped rubber return pipe that runs from the back of the front suspension column (hydraulic cylinder), and connects at a joint near the top of the wheel arch. These rubber pipes have a finite life, and eventually split after constant flexing of the suspension. Pressure in the pipe is low (it's a return to the LHM tank only), and the amount of fluid it handles varies considerably. The rubber pipes are available from Citroen (IIRC the Xantia ones are the same); also get the special stainless steel clip to hold it onto the column. If you're doing one side at the front, do both sides. As a temporary fix, if the pipe is split, you can cut it at the split and insert a short piece of plastic tubing into the bore to join the two sections. Everything easily accessible when you remove the roadwheel. Hi Paul,
Welcome to the forum you mentioned a v6 where did you see that and how much was it if you don't mind me asking. Also was it a series I or a series II the differences are the citroen chevron badge is on the left side of the nose for a series I and in the centre for a series II, yours I see is a series I Norman This post has been edited by Norman on August 23, 2014 07:58 am -------------------- Ex 98 Xm Vsx 2.1 Td Silver Estate RP 7548

Hi Paul,
I know secondhand LHD cars are expensive here, but €2k for that one - with a very scruffy interior - is a bit much. Don't know if you're hellbent on a V6, but the 2.5 (3 items down on the same page, r128270168) looks decidedly nicer, and at half the price. Hi Paul & Chris,
Thanks for the link it doesn't seem to bad a price there are some others much more expensive and I like the colour, how do you two go on about servicing your Xm's in Spain because as you might know parts and places to service them are few and far between in the Uk and the majority of citroen dealers don't know what it is!!
