Front Electric Window, goes up, then down!

Hi there,

Now I've got all my window electrics working all round I've got one problem left.

The drivers door window lowers fine but when it is raised it seems to come out of the runner near the top and then immediately lowers nearly all the way. THe only way to make it work is to guide it in place as it is raised.

Is there a way to fix this please!

Some series 2 cars have an anti pinch control on the drivers window which reverses the window if early resistance is encountered. You may just need to sort out the problem with the channel runner or channel plastic guide block fixed to the back edge of the window and then you will find the motor and control work correctly once there is no resistance to closure.

XMexc is spot on. The motor current is monitored by the anti-pinch and if too great it assumes you've got your head stuck out of the window and don't want it chopped off so it goes back down again.

The vertical edge of the glass towards the front of the car is guided up the steel channel by a felt/rubber insert with a gap the size of the thickness of glass. It would be difficult therefore for the glass not to be guided correctly at the front.

The guide towards the rear of the car however has no felt/rubber guide. It relies on a piece of black plastic bonded to the glass to keep the bottom corner only in the steel channel. If you've had the window out for some reason then the glass was lowered until this piece of black plastic comes out of the channel at the bottom. When the glass is replaced the front edge of the glass should be slipped into the felt guide at the front but the glass must be lowered at an angle so that it drops low enough at the back for the black plastic slider to enter into the bottom of the steel channel. Only then should the glass be levelled and raised until the hole in the glass reaches the big pin on the raise/lower slider.

It sounds like the bottom edge of the glass is not in the steel channel. Lower the window until the glass is about 1/3 up from the bottom. Disconnect the glass from the raise/lower slider. Tilt the rear of the glass down until the black plastic guide clears the bottom of the channel and it can be pushed across until it is in line. Raise the glass making sure the black plastic is constrained between the two sides of the steel channel.
