Hi,
I am looking for a complete XM Series 1 Service Manual, I understand that Noz supplies them.

I have a sedan RP 4984 as well as a Diesel Turbo RP 5782 this latter have hard suspension, as well as Hissing from the front in the engine , the front suspension very lazy to rise as well as the whole suspension is much stiffer despite the fact all the spheres as well as the accumulators have been replaced. Also the reservoir have been emptied and new Rinsage replaced , cleaned all the mesh filters, still hard.
The wiring loom Engine compartment that runs from the Block underneath the LHM reservoir - connected to all the wires that run near the Oil filler are bare , they have lost their insulations as well as touching each other intermittently, I need to make a new harness and or add new to the old discarded, need help.
Also the stiff suspension on my Diesel Wagon. both cars are Left Hand Drive.

many thanks in advance

Noz can probably supply a cd manual.

Is the hissing up front your steering, does it stop if you touch the steering and move the wheel - if so, 'they all do that' ...

Your 98 model won't have the hissing FDV and will have the 6+2 pump plus anti-sink I would guess.

Hi ,
it is the front that takes forever to rise as well as the hissing at the front in the engine bay around the pressure regulator and the fdv.
My 1990 sedan V6 RP4984 with the Deravi doesn't hiss at all, but the Diesel 2.1TD, RP 5782 have a hiss as well as the HP is heard more often, there are no leaks visually, but maybe internally.
I plan to overhaul my FDV , only I need the kit that Citroen used to supply, also wouldn't mind doing the EV,
How many EV's are there in my car as well as where are they located?

many thanks

Prakash

Hi Prakash

Your earlier car will have one of the Hydractive 1 versions.
I need to check actual change dates as the system got modified over the first year or so of production.
One of the things that changed was the electrovalve design and the other the ECU.
Early suspension Hydractive 1 ECU's have a green connector and a white one.
Later ones have a black connector and a white one.

Around the middle of the Mk1 XM build programme Citroen changed to Hydractive 2 suspension as used on all later XM's and the Xantia.
These have separate electrovalves for front and rear.
Not sure yet which batch you second car is.

If you can note and list here the codes printed on the suspension ECU's then it will be easier for us to provide more accurate replies to your questions.

John

Hi,
I checked both the cars, the sedan RP4984 as well as the RP5782 b.t.w this latter's production date shows as September 1992, however first registered in Italy in September 1993 and upon registering it into Canada, since new registrations begin around August/September, hence it got registered as a 1994.
Had this car been registered as 1992 proper then it would have been in my favour for it would have been just ripe for a lower special interest classic insurance.

Both cars have the following:

VALEO
Made in France
SUSPENSION
HYDRACTIVE ASC
73810602
12V 35.92
H3 / S2003

It have one Black connector and a White Connector, no greens.

Many thanks

Cheers

Prakash

Hi Prakash

That ECU marking confirms both cars should have the same Hydractive 1 system.
Type H3 was the final version Citroen produced before changing to Hydractive 2.

I am not that familiar with the Phase 1 XM's and the early hydraulics.
I will see if I can some of those users who are to help out.
Is there any sign that the aux drive belt to the hydraulic pump is slipping?

Noz scanned parts of the Citroen workshop manual a good while ago now.
He had only got as far as the Phase 2 pages when someone started selling copies on ebay. I think he then lost heart and did not complete scanning the Phase 1 pages.
He tends to work away quite a bit so it might be a while before he picks up on your post.

Hi John,

The RP 5782 Diesel Turbo have done 355,000 Kilometers, it had a cam belt and

other belts as well as the clutch replaced at 327,000 Kilometers.

The belt seems ok as well as I do not hear any slippage.

Only the hissing on the 5782, it have a Dirass powered steering as well as the fdv, the sedan 3L is a Deravi and it does not have a fdv, also it have no hiss.

...............I plan to overhaul my FDV , only I need the kit that Citroen used to supply.............................
As you are aware, the kit is no longer available but I believe that the filters (2 off) Pt. No 95 534 088 can still be supplied and yours will probably be split, but apart from them the remainder of the parts needed will probably be O-rings which will probably be standard sizes.

One important point is that the orientation of the restricting washers and the filters must be correct and should be checked when dismantling

The [B]electovalve
has small O-rings which can be replaced by standard ones. The energising coils (5-6 volts operating voltage) are not listed as replacement parts..

Hi,
Thanks for your reply,
I wonder if someone here has a used fdv as well as an ev and or new old stock, reasonably priced, it doesn't matter, only I would feel comfortable knowing ahead of time, that I would have a spare of each before undertaking the task of dismantling to replace the parts, just in case I am unsuccessful.

With reference to the Electro of the ev, I can get just about any solonoid from companies that specializes in Electromagnetic devices and most likely I would make it fit the ev.

Sincerely

Cheers

Prakash

Hi,
thanks for the information,
I plan to remove the fdv in a day or two and will put it on the bench, is there any instructions and or if anyone have carried out this process let me know further as in step by step removal process of the same?

I also would appreciate it very much if you can tell me if my car have a single electro valve or two as well as where would they be located?

Something tells me that since my Valeo Suspension is an H3 as well as it have the latter type of connectors , one a Black and the other a White hence the possibilities of having two electro valves, also if so what would be the purpose of having two as opposed to the only one?

Also if two electro valves, how would they be triggered on. i.e driven PWM, i.e. would they have a different circuit both independent of each other or the same only with a higher current rating?

I used to have a book explaining various circuits with reference to the XM's, seems like it misplaced.

many thanks

sincerely

Prakash

Hi Prakash

Your car has a single electrovalve.
It is the type that was fitted to most of the Phase 1 XM's.
Those built between 1990 and 1993.
These electrovalves were unique to these XM's as was the driver circuitry in the ECU's.
Experience suggests these components have been highly reliable.
As far as I know the only source of spares is secondhand.
I need to check but I think the electrovalve is fitted on the back end of the front subframe.

Do not confuse ECU markings with Citroen Hydractive numbers.

Hydractive 1 - earliest ECU (marked H) - green/white connectors.
Hydractive 1 - version 2 ECU (marked H2) - black/white connectors.
Hydractive 1 - version 3 ECU (marked H2B) - black/white connectors.
Hydractive 1 - version 4 ECU (marked H3) - black/white connectors.

The above ECU's have the same black/white connectors as the ECU's listed below but are not functionally interchangable. You can plug swap them but will do damage if you do.

Hydractive 2 -version 1 ECU (marked H4) - black/white connectors.
Hydractive 2 - version 2 ECU (marked H5) - blacl/white connectors.

I have seen a FDV overhaul self help some while ago so will see if I can find it and give a link.

John
