Hi Mark,

The problem with defining "dear" or "cheap" is that it depends on "how much its needed" and "number of alternative suppliers". I currently have no need for a pump since they seem to function fine on all three of my 2.5TDs. However, If the pump failed in some way on my daily runabout I would then be in dire need of one. I've seen ads for the 2.5TD pump running into the £1 - £1.5k range so compared to retail outlets then it is exceptionally cheap.

I did have a fancy for buying one simply to take apart to see how it worked and look for any signs of wear or adjustment. However, for that it would need to be nearly free since I don't need it for a car.

Of all of the faults covered here on this forum and others I don't think I have ever seen a report of a faulty pump. Bosch must have engineered them well. I saw your ad on ebay as well. I therefore assume that with no takers, there must be no need.

I think its a clear example of the difference between price and value, a subject not very well understood. A gold plated Lamborghini has a value of precisely zero if you are stuck on a desert island and starving or in a world with no fuel. The price is a different matter entirely.

Sorry for the ramble. I know it really didn't help.

cheers

noz
