Dear All!

I hope, somebody has repaired a MK1 front electric window before.
After complete renewal (repaint etc.), i started to place back the window, then........
the front-right window stopped work to slide down. Slide up works fine.
no clicking or any sounds from the motor, when down is pressed.

i measured the followings:
- the motor gets the 12v, when i press up, but no "-12 v" when pressed down.
- so, wiring from the switch to motor must be fine.
- the swith works fine in another door.
- the switch gets 12 v from the battery (of course, up is working.)

I cannot measure any cable-fail bethween the switch and the motor.
Had anybody this error before???

Thank You all for the help!

An XM owner from hungary.

Hi Lancaster86

Do you have a 2 or a 4 button switch for the drivers door.
Most UK cars have the 4 button version.
This version has a control box on the back of the door car.
These control boxes can sometimes fail.
The 2 button version has the same control switch as the rest of the doors.
The fact that you can swap switches suggests that you have this type in your XM.
You have eliminated the switch.
There is only a single 12v feed which you have found as good.
So your fault has to be a defective earth on either pin 2 or pin 4 of the switch plug.
If the earths check out ok then it has to be the condition of the wire contact.

John

If its the switch that's faulty you can very often bring them back to life by squirting some WD40 into the back.
