While my XM was having it's 4 Suspension Spheres replaced at my local garage.I got them to look at why the ABS warning light would not go out. They plugged into the ECU and came up with a code no.195 Security Relay. As they are not sure about this code as they say it normally has a letter in front of the numbers.
Are they right and where is this Relay and is it something I can do myself. Regards mike H -------------------- 2000- XM 3.0 V6 24V Exclusive auto saloon - Silver RP 8593

Hi Mike
Watch the ABS light when you switch the ignition on. It should go through a blink sequence then go out. Need to know if the light just comes straight on without blinking. This process is the ECU checking the components. A relay or power supply fault will not blink. The binking tells us how far the ECU got with system testing. I do not recognise the fault codes your garage listed. Did they use a Lexia or a generic tester. Might be worth putting a Lexia on if that has not been done. A Lexia may be able to clear the fault codes recorded in the ECU. John -------------------- An interest in 2.5TD's.

Hi John
Just switched on the ignition and the ABS light just stayed on,it did not blink. I then started the car the light stayed on along with the message "ABS not in use" I think that is what it said as this display is abit broken up. I took the car for a drive, the light and message stayed on all the time. I do not know what the garage used, but will talk to them tomorrow and report back with any info. Thanks John for you help. Hi Mike,
there is a green relay next to fusebox in the engine compartment - you should check it for any rust or damage. There should be +12V permanent on the socket (trough fuse No3 - fusebox behind it)=pin No3(i cant read it |

Hi Guys,
John my garage used a Snap-on Solus to check my car out and he said that the 195 fault code he thinks is a dealer code of some sort !! Sharo the relays all look OK along with the fuses, but I have not checked the voltage yet,but did give them a clean up just in case. No luck yet. Still have the ABS fault. Hi Mike
I had this problem some time ago and it was due to a wire corroding and falling off under the engine compartment fuse box, it provided the supply the the hydraulic block. Peter -------------------- Used to have:

Not sure about the later cars, but Series 1 XMs have a relay on the ABS valve block, which developed a fault on one of my cars. Regards, Matthew T.
