Hello guys! My name is Razvan and i am from Ploiesti in country Romania. I am recently owner of a green Xm 2.1 turbo D12 from 1997. It had a 3.0 V6 engine but the tax is very big for that engine here and was converted to diesel.
I will add some pictures soon!
I love this car's design and complexity.
Glad to join this comunity! biggrin.gif

Hi Razvan

Pleased you have found us.
Look forward to the pictures of your XM.
Did you change the engine and convert the car to diesel yourself?

John

The previous owner changed the engine. But the mechanic who changed the engine deactivated the hydractive system entirely (the 3rd sphere was removed and the hydractive computer also) . I want to make it all back but i have to buy the missing parts first. The car computer is not working also, must be because it has the petrol engine computer and now is diesel. Does anyone know if i can adapt it to diesel engine?

Hi Razvan

It looks to me that the 2.1 engine is fitted with a Bosch diesel pump.
One of our 2.1 experts will be along soon to confirm this.
Bosch fitted 2.1 engines of this age do not have an engine ECU.
Without an engine ECU there is no signal to drive the mileage and fuel consumption computer display.
No easy fix to reinstate either.
There is the same problem with cruise control as the cruise ECU and engine bay fittings look to have been removed with the V6 engine.
Just the cruise switch on the dash now with column switch gone.
This too will be difficult to make operational.
The photos help a lot.

John

Interesting.

This car looks like it has two nearside strut tops fitted to it.

You are nearly right Robert.
How did I miss that?
They are actually 2 drivers side (LHD) strut heads.
Can only be done on that side as the LHM tank is in the way for the other side.
That must mean that the struts are set at different angles.
There is something between 10 to 15mm offset to the strut head fixing points.
It also means that strut head soft/stiff axis is totally wrongly positioned on the incorrect strut head.
That must do interesting things to the steering geometry.
That raises another question for me.
Presumably this car as a V6 had DRAVI power steering.
Did that stay fitted or get changed to DIRASS.

John

Nearside in the UK means the side of the car nearest the kerb, which is the left side of the car when you are sitting in it.
