Hi Phil,
I'd at least have the head checked for straightness and have a pressure test done. Most engine shops will be able to quote you for the head gasket and or headset and bolts. You need to use the later laminated steel head gasket, these will come in various thickness depending on the supplier, if the head isn't skimmed then get one that's the same thickness as the existing gasket. Good work, keep it up. Steve. This post has been edited by steelcityuk on June 08, 2011 10:38 am -------------------- XM 2.1 SED - RP5876

The gasket I got from Citroen only came in one thickness, they call it a 'repair gasket'. I have found from past experience with Perkins engines that the thickness is not really very critical unless the piston projection was exceptional. I once fitted one that gave high enough compression to start the engine without the 'thermostart' system and it still didn't hit the valves.

Hi Phil,Peter's right, only one repair gasket from Citroen.I didn't shop around for my 2,went straight to Citroen. As Steve noted, do check for for straightness.A straightedge across the diagonals and feeler gauges is all you need.

![]() Hope this is good enough as I don't want to get it skimmed. I went to Andrew page to buy a head gasket but wanted to know how many notches wad on the original . It looks like one if it's the holes shown in the picture. Not sure the relevance of this ?? |

Nightmare getting a head gasket. No one seems to know which one I need. I think it's just the standard gasket. It's not been skimmed. It seems to have one hole punched in it at the end which I thought indicated the thickness . Andrew page not sure, even Citroen in Lincoln no help. Any ideas??
