Hi Simon
Welcome to the club. Nice car you have there, I like silver, think it suits them with the black as contrast. I have been looking for a 2.1 manual silver Mk2 estate for years without success but I have a white one which also looks nice - when its clean. You have the second best model there, the best one is the estate Peter -------------------- Used to have:

thanks peter,
yes it's a lovely colour i think it's called mercury silver, all it needs is a set of series 1 alloy wheels, i think series ones are best as for the estates i think their master pieces in design the proportions are spot on. i've come close to a few xm's but got cold feet, but this one came from my citroen mechanic from one of his customers i'm a former bxclub'er aka simonbx17, I've had a fair few bx's and various other citroen's since i was 18yrs old, much to the amusement of my mates as my first citroen was a bx 19rd estate! simon. -------------------- 1993 2.1 turboD, R.P 5706, 204,000 miles

Hi Simon
XMs are getting very thin on the ground now especially 2.1 S2 manual estates, the last one I saw at a sensible price was over two years ago and I bought it. I too have had a succession of hydro pneumatic Citroens, my first was a CX DTR estate in about 1985, followed by two more the last being a turbo which I had for seven years and over 150,000 miles - fantastic car. Since then I have had several BXs and a number of XMs, I have only recently deviated from them due to not being able to find another one and in the interests of fuel economy, I bought a 406 Hdi, after saying I would never have a common rail engine engine Peter This post has been edited by Peter.N. on April 21, 2011 10:01 am -------------------- Used to have:

most s1 xm's are fast disappearing too i think this is due to the s2 being better built and having a longer production run maybe, shame as the s1 just has that look especially with those alloys!
haha i too have deviated in the last two and half years i changed my last bx k reg txd turbo saloon for a mk3 golf because i was moving away from my trusted citroen mechanic then a volvo 850 because the golf had no power steering and around bristol it's very heavy and now i'm in a volvo 940 turbo (see a pattern) love my volvo's there like the flip side of citroen ownership i.e reliability and simple engineering. but, my citroen feelings were calling me and i happen to ring my mechanic wanting something more economical than the volvo and that's when this came up and i went for it! glad i did, it's an experience! just wish i could sort my passenger electric window! where do i post for that? -------------------- 1993 2.1 turboD, R.P 5706, 204,000 miles

Does your window not work at all? if not the fault is very often the switch contacts, take the switch out and spray some WD40 into its orifices and give it a work out. If its a mechanical problem the easiest thing to to is fit a secondhand motor assembly, if you can't get one replacement cables are available on ebay.
I bought a BMW 5 series td estate last year, only kept it for a few months, nothing like as comfortable, roomy, tractable or economical as the XM so it went, the 406 is nice to drive but hard after the XM. Peter -------------------- Used to have:

it goes down but won't go back up, my mechanic has probed the connections (he's got one of those probes that connects to the battery and can switch between +&-), anyway when he applied current to the yellow wire with white trace it goes back up we've checked the door connections and all the other connections it's just baffling would be nice for the wife have a window!
i think it's the switch, but again we tried other switches and does the same it'll work a couple of times and then stops, it also effects the drivers switch for the passenger window. also (here we go) the sunroof motor doesn't seem to be meshing with the mechanism very well i have to push on the glass when tilting up but won't slide it the just slips, can this be adjusted? plus it also needs- handbrake cables, ] drivers side driveshaft, ] my mechanic will be sorting these. offside rear window mechanism, ] poor cold starting/running for the first few miles which after reading some posts could be the diesel heater? ] dashbulbs turbo gauge sender, oil temp not working, clock/outside temp lcd display has leaked, just a few things to be getting on with! other than that it's had a head rebuild and has been well looked after even has a personally documented history and mpg record. oh i paid £1500 for it?! -------------------- 1993 2.1 turboD, R.P 5706, 204,000 miles

i've sussed my passenger electric window problem it's an earthing problem, so i'm going to make up my own.
an ideas where the earth goes/runs in the car? as the haynes manual diagrams aren't very clear! simon. -------------------- 1993 2.1 turboD, R.P 5706, 204,000 miles

Not really, there are some under the dash but not very easy to get at, you migh be better drilling a hold and fitting a self tapper.

cheers pete, will do tomorrow now, but was hoping to trace it back to point of origin!
i don't think it's loom in the door as everything else works, it must be further in to the car some where it also connects the driverside passenger window switch, oh well. just the sunroof to try and tackle, it appears the glass seal itself is causing my roof to stick? any other known faults here? i know i should do a search just trying to save time. two more things where on earth do i get a turbo boost gauge sender/sensor from? is it dealer only as i've searched all the obvious parts places gsf, euro car parts etc but to no avail! plus the gauge next to the light up level gauge what purpose does this serve as it never seems to do anything! -------------------- 1993 2.1 turboD, R.P 5706, 204,000 miles

Hi Simonxm21,
For the missing Earth try the door loom connector where it screws into the bodywork it is a large screw connector and it can be quite stiff to unscrew it, where i found which one of my doors was corsing the central locking not to work disconnect the plug and spray wd40 into it then screw it in and out a few times to clean it up. Front Passenger window wiring is on a "long chain feed".
This means that all the switches and wiring have to be good to work. The switch in the passenger door gets its feeds through the switch in the drivers door. Even Haynes has a good wiring diagram for this as it is standard for all XM's. So both door switches need checking/contact cleaning and so do the contacts in both door wiring connectors. hi john,
right i've finally narrowed it down, to the yellow wire with blue trace this seems to be a permanent negative, as when this is earthed the window then is able to go back up. also if i apply an earth to all the others wires the window then goes up but as soon as i press down they go to positive and blow my fuse in my improvised tester. i've stripped and cleaned the passenger switch and it was in not bad shape only minor burning on the contacts. the haynes manual wiring diagram says all the wires are yellow! it doesn't show which is which with colour traces! hope this makes sense? thanks. -------------------- 1993 2.1 turboD, R.P 5706, 204,000 miles
