My first post in this forum, I'm usually over in the co.uk forum but it seems to be down most of the time these days.

I salvaged an electric armrest from a S2 Exclusive to put in my S2 2.5TD vsx, I'd assumed that the wiring would be provided in my vsx but it doesn't appear to be. I understand that it uses the same motor as an electric window & can be wired up to one of the rear electric windows.

However on the electric armrest mechanism I can only find a socket for a 2 wire plug (I also salvaged this plug as well as the control button to move it up & down) and I must confess to being a bit confused as to how I can control & power the mechanism from just the 2 wire plug. The wiring for the plug on the donor car seemed to run all the way into the wiring loom and the same for the control plug, I assume this is so that it only works when the ignition is on?

I'm probably being thick & missing something obvious but if someone could tell me how I go about wiring this up that would be great. Removing the console & fitting the armrest isn't a problem just need to know how to wire it up.

Piggyback it off an electric window switch supply, the cables on the electronic armrest circuit match the electric window ones perfectly.

Thats how I have fitted them to my cars with no problems; must have done 5 now!

This is what the plug for the control switch looks like.

The plug that goes into the armrest motor just has 2 grey wires. I'm not really all that clued up on wiring so which wires do I piggyback onto the rear electric window switch?

Are there wires going from that switch to the motor?

The wires on both switches are exactly the same, just use one of the rear electric window supplies.

DONT get yourself too confused... theres too many wires in the plug, this is because theres wire for "Switch Illumination" too...

The job of the switch is to reverse polarity to make the window/arm rest go up/down..

I think two centre wires goto the motor.. I did the same as Robert, and followed the Electric window wireing.. just that the window was the arm rest, and the switch was, switch...

OK thanks everyone, I THINK I have it figured out, gonna give it a go this weekend. Got to take out the bloody console in order to get the mechanism in the cubby.

Incidentally what does an exclusive have that my VSX hasn't, I've put on a leather steering wheel, it has full beige leather, 24v alloys, a/c & climate control, cruise control & soon to have electric armrest. It doesn't have heated seats altho they feel warm when the weather is cold but this is probably my imagination!

You wire your Orange switch plug to one of the Blue window switch plugs.
It does not matter which Blue plug you pick.
The outer most grey wires on the switch plug ends go to the two arm rest motor contacts.
These two grey wires have colour marks (blue & white) to get the polarity right.
All the other five wires are connected to the same position wires on the chosen blue plug.

Not all exclusives got heated seats but you must fit the coat hooks and cup holders.
Hope you recovered the arm rest console rubber surround as well.
You may find the airbag sensor support needs modifying to fit the arm rest frame.

John

I did forget about this. I fitted a S1 armrest mechanism to a S2, and had to cut out part of the cradle affair so that the airbag sensor support could use its usual mounting points.

Cupholders !......Cupholders...... no-one told me they fitted cupholders. If I had a pound for every spilled cup of coffee......

Pray tell, where are the cupholders fitted and how would one go about retrofitting them?

Cheers

John

Good job you mentioned the rubber surround, I wasn't aware of this but luckily I had to go back to the seller to pick up something else & I read your message in time. I see how I needed the rubber surround now.

All fitted snugly & working great.
