VSX boot won't central lock.

Boot on the VSX unlocks OK with central locking but won't lock except with the key.
When locked with the key it unlocks with the central locking (I thought it was supposed to stay locked in that situation).

Been messing with heater blower. Might I have disturbed some cabling down there?
Also car has not been used hardly at all since Nov 2009, maybe just entropy?

Any ideas folks?

Hi,

I had a similar fault with my Silver 2.5 estate. The solenoid seems to become weak and will only unlock the tailgate. I managed to fit a replacement solenoid from 405 tailgate that I had in the shed. It wasn't an exact duplicate but was easy to fit into place and worked like new. There's a thread about somewhere.

Mine has that problem, the tailgate central locking didn't work at all when I bought it and I found the motor hanging by its wires, one of which was broken, I cleaned it and put it back together and its been fine until recently when it started doing what yours is - don't know about it locking the rest though.

The owner's manual details that boot key-hole can be used to manually lock/unlock boot, but can also be left parked in two positions . . . key-slot vertical: boot locking will from central locking system; key-slot parked at 45deg: boot will not respond to CLS (key open/lock only).

This is effected by a microswitch on the back end of the boot lock tumbler/assembly. When switch is electrically open CLS is disabled on the boot; when switch is closed, CLS functions.

In my case, lock tumbler was completely seized (lack of use!) and plastic arm which hits the switch somewhat sloppy. I have shorted the switch out, giving full-time CLS operation.

Access all of this by (crawling into boot, rear seats swung forward - if necessary) removing the full-width plastic trim on the lower inside edge of the boot lid. You can manually unlock by tweaking one of the rods, if you need to.

Do check the operation of this microswitch - if it's mechanically or electrically intermittent, it seems to make the whole CLS somewhat haphazard.

THanks White Exec, 45 degree did the trick, will leave further investigation till its a bit warmer and lighter.
