Hi all,

Further to the thread on strut top repair -here- I thought I'd bring together all of the ideas expressed thus far into a Repair Manual. I have been working on this for a while but it was taking too long so I decided to issue it in Draft form. If I don't issue it now it might not get issued at all.

This is a collaboration of ideas. It is nowhere near complete. It is likely that it contains errors and omissions and requires more typesetting. It will also be added to over time. For example I hope to include a section explaining the different strut ram diameters and the effects on the strut tops. If anyone else wants to put that section together or provide the information please do so. I'll add it to the manual and credit you with the contribution. The same goes for any other sections you feel might be of interest. Please suggest items or concepts for inclusion.

You will see that the repairs require the fitment of some additional parts.
  • The lower Repair Plate is already in hand. I can cut the shapes out with a CNC plasma cutter and form the bevel in a press. The holes will be drilled or cut out with the plasma, I have not decided which yet.
  • The new Rubber Mouldings are in the process of being priced with a local injection moulding company.
  • I don't yet know how to remanufacture the Anchor Plate, particularly the cone section. Any ideas welcome.

Since the strut tops are the single biggest threat to the Citroen XM it is encumbent on us all to try as a community to solve this problem.

Any and all comments welcome.

Please refrain from commenting on this thread in the Self-Help section. We should keep the thread clean for updates. Please take any discussion to the XM Issues General section either to the original thread above or to a new thread. Your assistance is appreciated.

Cheers

ps
I took the liberty of copying the various sketches and photographs from the thread above without first asking permission. I am hoping the originators will grant me post facto permission to use the photos and diagrams. If not, please let me know asap and I will remove them.
