Having Hydraflush put in recently, we noticed that there appeared to be fine, gold coloured filings in the LHM tank-the fluid was quite a bright green, the filters were quite mucky too so doing their job. Anyone here experienced this or any idea what may give the filings up-obviously it would seem that something is 'wearing'-but what?
Many thanks, Alan. -------------------- '95 2.1 TD auto Exclusive RP6672 Quartz

Hi Alan,
The gold coloured filings are likely to be brass. However, for the life of me I cant picture where in the system there might be some brass. Noz -------------------- '10 '59' C5 2.0 HDi Exclusive Tourer Metallic Grey

Noz-I would have thought that all the components would have been steel (apart from pipework maybe?).

Hi Alan,
The rear struts are aluminium with steel pistons. The front struts are steel with steel pistons. The height correctors are aluminium with steel spool valves. The wetted parts of the spheres are steel and rubber. The electrovalves are all steel. I've never had a pump, a FDV valve or a regulator apart so I'm not sure about those. As I said, I couldn't think of a brass component. Do you have any cupro-nickel pipework? Cheers noz -------------------- '10 '59' C5 2.0 HDi Exclusive Tourer Metallic Grey

Not that I'm aware of Noz-and strangely since Hydraflush was put in, the ride seems a little harder and the back end seems to stay up when parked!

Hi Folks,
I think that the three / four way unions are brass castings - there are three or so on the back axle and I believe some at the front. Whilst there are no moving parts, you WOULD get some brass bits if the brake / hydraulic pipe ends have been cross-threaded at some point. Clive |
