XM 20turbo `98 non ac climate, has only 1.2v coming through the heavy red wire to fan module.(heavy red and a black wire double conector). Where does it draw its power, I`ve checked ign. switch, all OK, I know they play up on Xantias.

Hi 2smv627
Try F2 in the engine compartment fuse box. Usually the contacts are weak/burnt out so try twisting the legs of a 30 amp fuse a little bit skew with a pair of pliars so that you get a better contact. If it solves the problem it will not last long so get a replacement fuse box from a scrap yard (not from an XM as the F2 contacts will have the same problem but many other similar age PSA cars have the same fuse box). Ih vae a similar problem, the car is a very early Mk2 VSX turbo, heater motor does not work at all, but added to the the temp control seems to be dead as well, or if it does work it sticks on hot or cold. The heater did just run on full all the time when I got it, but shotly after worked perfectly fro aday and then no blower at all.
Is thei the mysterious Fuse 2? at the moment it is behaving like there is no power to anything on the ehater panel. The temp sesnor fan alse only works when it feels like it (belive me you know when its running!) Stewart -------------------- Of all the things I have lost I think I miss my mind the most

Ho hum, first cold day when I wanna blow some hot air around in the VSX and no fans!
Fuse 27 here I come. The fans have been blowing fine since I got it at Easter trying too cool down the inside, but havn't really needed hot air until now. -------------------- XM 2.0i Prestiege (Red) 1992 K reg RP 5692 (deceased)

Typically when the blower just runs on full speed it's caused by a failing resistor in the blower motor.. It can be replaced. Removing the motor is easy so you might want to check that if you haven't found the cause already. It's located under the dashboard, passenger side. Just remove the screws that hold the trim panel up. Not sure this is the problem with your car though since I don't have any experience with the temp control failing too.. -------------------- XM V6 24V -98

Typical, I just get the blower in my S1 sorted, and yesterday SWMBO announces that one in the S2 has started doing the same thing, just in time for winter too!

Ciaran :-) and you wonder why XM's are so cheap:-) :-). Glad I kept the old one running, no sounds but at least its warm for now. Looks better than the S2 too, but the clutch is well heavy.
Is this related to the NS read door central locking failing? Gelupa, I could coax it to run at less than full speed until recent failure to blow at all, I assumed being on full speed when outside temp is greater than set temperare was normal. However, its something else to look at. -------------------- XM 2.0i Prestiege (Red) 1992 K reg RP 5692 (deceased)

OK so I had a look at F2 today, the fuse plastic holder was mostly brown and attempts at removal resulted in the fuse disintegrating and leaving one leg irretreveably broken in the holder, which has also melted quite a bit (see pic).
So, I need a "new" fusebox I guess. Or is it practical to rewire the fusebox to use one of the currently unused positions? Pic taken after fuse removal/disintegration -------------------- XM 2.0i Prestiege (Red) 1992 K reg RP 5692 (deceased)

Hi Dr Tim
Most similar age Citroen and Pugeot cars have the same fuse box fitted. The advantage of getting a non XM one from the scrap yard is that the other cars do no seem to burn out the F2 contacts. Once you realise how the two yellow plastic locking bars work to release the contact plugs then fitting the replacement is a quick job. Fit a 40 Amp fuse (Green/Brown) if you can get one instead of the normal 30 Amp one as Citroen upgraded the value of this fuse in the last few XM's produced. Rewiring to a different fuse in the box is not easy as the contact plugs are individually polarised and no spare wires are fitted. The other alternative is to fit a separate inline fuse in its own holder (from either supply cable on the end of the fuse box to the wire comming from the F2 plug). Thanks XMexec, is a new box prohibitively expensive? realistically going to a scrappy is gonna mean a day of work for me, so if I can get the indie tio fit one for less ....

Hi Dr Tim
No idea the price of a new one, sorry. I got a few good S/H ones a while back to cover my likely needs. If you are going to get an Indy to sort then the separate inline fuse is likely to be the cheapest option. Nothing wrong with it technically. New engine fusebox £32.20 + VAT from Citroen, btw, will pick it up tomorrow or Monday. Lets hope tat gets the heating and fans working OK, as the S1 car also has heating issues now:-)
btw I did drive the car a bit with the dead heater/fans and everything seemd to work OK, but since I discovered the problem with F2 I havnt driven it at all. -------------------- XM 2.0i Prestiege (Red) 1992 K reg RP 5692 (deceased)

The lack of temperature control is either failure of the servo motor (under the glove box) or failure of the +12v supply to the control unit. I cant remember whether the supply also comes from the same fuse, if it does, that should cure both problems.

Thanks Peter, the lack of temp control issue is in the S1 car though, S2 just has no fans or temp control due to F2 meltdown, will fit fuse box tomorrow. The S1 car also has the mystery ducting that fell out in the drivers footwell issue! I had a quick look yesterday but I think I might get the indie to look at that once the S2 is warm again. sigh, I know
