Hi folks , for years our second car has been Citroen with the BX's and a DS 21 Safari & xantias. The wife's Xantia estate of 7 years was due for a change , & searching unsuccessfully for a low mileage high spec replacement (!) came across a low mileage high spec XM 2.5 TD VSX estate.
And so a new chapter begins !
Thanks to this fantastic forum resource i have learnt why after changing the wheel spheres & fluid change there wasn't much change to the very hard suspension around town .... suffice it to say that £35 later with an e-crofter kit on board the ride is superb!
It's had a recent clutch , thankfully , and plenty of TLC from its owner of the last 15 years.
It was SORNed by previous owner last summer and so we're still blowing out the cobwebs as she was put on the road again 1st june .
the only gremlin is a slight leak of coolant which drips from the LHS of the block . The hoses look to have been replaced on that side... I can see the new bulldog clips at the rear ( presume to heater matrix) and the seem ok . but can only see the front bulldog clip for one of the hoses & that seems ok too! I just hope it's not the head ! Could it be a weeping core plug? It's been pretty cold overwinter after all?
just invested £30 in one of those flexible snake scope cameras from maplins which plugs into laptop USB & when it's a bit darker i'm gonna go out and have a look to see if i can find source of the leak . meanwhile I found some old fashioned leak sealant in a cupboard which i've added as well.
it's still got the antitheft keypad active and the pixellated screen is just still readable in most cases ... i.e telling us when ABS is inactive ! which happens for short periods when it goes thru puddles!
Apart from the company car i keep a lotus elan +2 & the Lotus elan forum is also a very good source of information and support.
we're off on family holiday over to west coast of Ireland with a full load in august so hope to have it sorted by then.
cheers all
