I see that diesel is now cheaper than cooking oil. Another good idea bites the dust.

I dont think the vat man would be too pleased to hear your cooking on reduced tax rate diesel biggrin.gif

Seems falling oil prices may be short lived, i heard today the major players in the oil business are looking at scaling down extraction, which surely will only drive prices back up wacko.gif unsure.gif

Hey Dean

Their move is barely aimed at trying to keep it where it is these days, around 70$/barel. If they didn't cut what they've cut today (1,5 million barrels/day out of the 28,500,000 total international production/day), it'd probably go even lower (demand has dropped and is only expected to drop more) and they dont want this. How else these poor people in Dubai are going to build more hotel-islands?? Or, it is calculated theat Venezuela's budget turns into deficit at the $80/barrel mark. So it's a no-no.

In the meanwhile, I'm glad to see petrol dealers seem to pass (some of) the drop on the pump. Not yet as low as it should be, but it's normal, they're now selling stuff they bought at between 100-145$ !! So give it 1-2-3... months and we should see even lower. The year-high at my local Asda (95 unleaded) was 1.08 and today was 98.9. Can't wait for it to go to round 80p.

When I bought the 3lt in 2004 I was filling up at 60-70p.

cheers

Hi Paul

I think that the demand is still falling so prices may still drop further. My heating oil has more than doubled in the last year or so!

We followed a chip fat burning Land Rover along the M42 yesterday and it was smoking and smelling like a burger bar.

Peter.

How very yesterday !

Smart money at the minute is on gassed petrol ones, with the bonus of that nice V8 sound. Only diesels we've got now are the XMs and a CF (4.108) -- an engine I know Peter is familiar with from his previous posts.

Mike.

Hi Mike

Not if the gas leaks and you smoke. I see from todays news there is a slightly scorched ex pug 407 owner who has vowed to give up smoking.

Yes, I saw that, amazing that the chap escaped almost without injury! Made a mess of his car though.

I can't help thinking that many of the people who die in car fires probably wouldn't have if they had been driving a diesel

Hi Peter

Yep, one of the reasons I favour diesel. Takes a lot to get diesel going.
