Hello all and HELP!
If I had known what a struggle this was going to be I would have run a mile, spinning track rod ends that refuse to come off(angle grinder)
inaccessible nuts that a are a total bugger to get at .
Now I can't get the clutch slave off the gearbox, the haynes joke book says there is a "quick release junction" under the left footwell,I have removed the lower panels and can't see it,felt my way under the dash and there is no union there.
I can't release the slave cylinder from the bell housing I suspect this is because there is still pressure in the line.
I am into my second day struggling with this this this car.
Your help would be most appreciated.
Gary

DO NOT release the pressure in the clutch system! It is a sealed system and should only be disconnected at the Quick-release junction - and I can assure you that it is there . The slave cylinder needs just a twist to get it out of the clutch housing, if I recall, so you will probably not even need to disconnect at all. (It was alll a long time ago!)

I seem to recall the Q.R.J as being under the mat as it turns upwards from the bulkhead, but leave it if you can. It leaks a spot or two as you dismantle so it's best left alone.

Is it the QRJ that that Cit. say may not be disconnected more than a specified number of times? Or perhaps it was something else. Thought it worth mentioning in case it is.

Robert.

Hi Gary prop the clutch pedal up so it cannot move, the clutch slave cyl is released by twistingit anticlock, once out carefully put it out of the way to be even more safe make a sling to go over the piston rod and using a tie wrap around the length of the cyl to stop the piston coming out too far as it will split the cyl.
"do not split the quick release joint as it will 99.9% leak on reuse"
I hope these pictures help you

this pic shows the removal of the cyl and the special tool to hold the piston in.

this pic shows how to engage the release bearing into the pressure plate.

Thanks for the quick replies Robert and Techman. The panic is over I managed to get the engine and box out at twenty to five, only two days at it!
I had tried to twist the slave anti-clockwise and it just wouldn't budge,I came in wrote that message of Help in desperation, studied the joke book yet again and it showed what it said was a dust cover along the pipe as it came out through the bulk head.
So thinking what I was looking at was a dust cover,I proceeded to ease the ,what looks like a bung, away from the bulk head ,when it came away it still looks like an overgrown grommet, just that after I had done this,I tried twisting the slave again and it came out yippee.
Hooked up the engine and it came out no bother on the second attempt,on the first I was trying to lift the car up as I had not released the top engine mount to the rear of the head.
Now that I have reached the clutch, the plate is worn quite thin ,not down to the rivets but the radial lines they put in them had almost disappeared ,the release bearing is spinning very freely and making that used noise.pressure plate is ok as is the flywheel face,no scores.
In view of the time and amount of work involved I will ring around in the morning and get the best price I can on a clutch kit .
oh the fun I have had!
Gary

Thanks for that mick ,the haynes joke book covers so many variants sometimes it gets a bit ,like er what one should I be looking at?
Now I have it all in bits all I have to do is put it together again!
That's after I clean all the caked on grime and oil off all the parts. on reflection I should have had it steam cleaned before I attempted it,would have made it a lot easier.
