Can see at least one non-minor 'ding' on the O/S/F wheel arch just forward of the wheel. Also looks to be some rust on the sill just below the driver's door? Neither of which would dissuade me, though the lack of history might This post has been edited by ThwartedEfforts on February 04, 2009 08:43 am -------------------- 97 'R' XM 2.0i SX Saloon Auto

I only just bought it
Has been owned by the same gentleman and is being sold by the garage who supplied it new. Full history, MoT renewed on Friday though it failed initially on the front tyres. Still taxed. Will get it some time in the next couple of weeks. I finally get the wheels and the interior I wanted, and it's diesel. Will have to start being nicer about manuals though -------------------- 97 'R' XM 2.0i SX Saloon Auto

The 2.1 manual I briefly owned was a very nice drive (despite all its issues!) TE - I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

A 2.1 manual - congratulations - a discerning purchaser. If it had been a Mk2 you would have had everything. Looks very nice from here though.

Well done Phil - s1's ruleOk!! Got those wheeltrims you like too!!
Mileage is nice but watch the remaining clutch life! It won't be leather Dean, I believe like me Phil doesn't 'do' leather!! It's actually a nice no frills 'D' so not an SD or SED; will have the uber comfy velour manual seats although a drawback will be that it will only have lekky front windows and no ABS or thankfully front fogs; unless specc'd extras on purchase. Small dink on the offside rear wing too... (sorry Job's comforter me... Andrew This post has been edited by Andmcit on February 07, 2009 08:32 pm |

Andrew i have to admit the velour seats in the vsx i just got are very comphy and arent ice cold or red hot depending on the weather, but leather does look nice and is easyer to maintain.

Agree leather is much easier to maintain but already have leather in the C5 for the new arrival (becoming a father in May)
It is a very good question about having multiple cars and not being able to decide which one to use, so I've bought space at a storage site and will swap them over on a weekly basis. Petrol one week and diesel the next. Call me mad if you like (because Citroens do that to you) I've always wanted to compare an early XM with a late XM and now I can -------------------- 97 'R' XM 2.0i SX Saloon Auto

Is this true Andrew - no ABS? Although as you say one less thing to go wrong I've grown so used to driving cars with ABS that it kind of unnerves me -------------------- 97 'R' XM 2.0i SX Saloon Auto

The standard Xm non ABS brakes are totally superb and as you no doubt drive sensibly
they'll be an aid to good driving being strong powerful and assured but WILL lock up if you do - too many people drive far to fast for their view ahead for safe braking and tend to rely on the perceived "idiotproof" ABS brakes. Andrew |

From what I've read elsewhere here about the almost hit and miss ABS brakes,
I'd say the standard brakes will have an edge as they won't have that tiny lag when you first apply the brakes that is felt under ordinary braking. Andrew This post has been edited by Andmcit on February 08, 2009 02:57 pm |

Never had an XM with ABS where the brakes have felt quite as nice as those without it. Mike. -------------------- XM 2.5VSX Estate RP 7185

Phil,
maybe I was being hard on the car spec earlier but mentioned it more as a thing to bear in mind to prevent any disappointment or unpleasant surprises! Being an Xm s1 saddo these things have been picked up along the way and remembered so worth mentioning to someone like yourself with a S2 - actually I'm more blind on the s2 way of things. I'm a big fan of the honest and simple early s1's as much as the top of the line SEi and V6 models. The ride in the lower spec/base models is invariably always better with deeper section tyres and thinner anti roll bars etc... Andrew |
