I fancy the looks of the CX more, but....
Technically, the GS is even better than the CX as, because it uses boxer engines, the power tranfer shafts to the wheels are of equal lenght each side, so there is no torque-steer either! Like on all rear-wheel-driven cars, and only on a handful of front-wheel-drives that have ever existed. Plus, the front discbrakes are at the engine's side of the shafts, not on the wheel like on most cars, so the non-suspended wheight is even smaller -so the wheel can follow the road even more willingly-! Again one of a handful of cars featuring this... How much better can a suspension been designed to be??? Not much....Only if it was Hydractive really. 99% of modern cars are flawed by comparison. cheers George This post has been edited by jorgy9 on February 28, 2009 02:02 am -------------------- XM '94 V6 12v, manual, Diravi - Mark "1.5" in black - bought: 138,000mls now: 167,000 miles

Always been fascinated by the GS because I've never even sat in one. Prior to buying my CX I could at least have said that I'd been driven in one before - but not the GS. How does it compare in terms of ride, noise and handling? I confess I find the XM an objectively better car than the CX because it's manifestly roomier and quieter, and would be worried that with the GS I'd be slipping further back into time when cars really weren't as well thought through as they are now. Even if they have bags more charm.
Oddly I'd been sent one of those silly 'Car Quizzes' where you have to identify weird cars and the GS was one of them - think it was in this colour too! Most people were incorrectly identifying it as a CX -------------------- 97 'R' XM 2.0i SX Saloon Auto

And you'd be right. In it's own way the GS is a great car, smooth ride, powerful brakes, very quiet at idle, etc, but when under way it's not so quiet being air cooled and it does roll a lot with pretty heavy understeer at the limits. Times move on and I wouldn't buy one without trying it first as it may not suit what you're after. |

I think that the CX is technically better than the XM, I always reckoned that the Safari handled like a 17' mini. They took a step backwards going to Macpherson struts. The GS is to small.
