Having had my green/grey S1 back from Brodie's and discovered just how close to perfection a properly serviced XM can be in terms of ride quality, I'm going to lose the S2's comfort spheres and get 'real' ones back on there. Then I'll be certain to keep it biggrin.gif

Hi all

QUOTE
Looking back at the performance stats someone posted a short while ago, there isn't actually THAT much difference between the two cars. It would surely make overtaking easier though.

I have driven both and believe me there is a very big difference in performance, you only get about 5bhp extra with the turbo but its the extra Torque that is making me go through the effort of doing the conversion on mine, well ok its because i want a project biggrin.gif, but to drive the turbo is far smoother with good in gear exelleration.
You should have a test drive, the only downside i can see if you do a lot of miles is economy unsure.gif .

Seconded, I have a 2,01 and 2.0TCT, admittedly both in manual, nothing wrong with the 2.0i, but the turbo gets going a lot better.

What BHP is the 2.0 8V? I can imagine there is quite a difference in performance from the 8v to the turbo. However maybe not so much between the 2.0 135 16v and the turbo?

Turbos are quick cars though, no doubt in that.

Does look quite tidy doesn't it, but that green is pretty revolting and it is an auto.
I wonder has it had cams done ever and how is the auto box, spheres, tyres,
Mouseflakes is right it is just a couple of miles from me but my VSX has only just turned 65k and
is a manual and although much more beat up it is a MUCH nicer colour.

Chris

There is only 5bhp between our cars, with yours, better top end power (5hp) but i have better low down torque being an 8v but in a drag race there would be nothing in it.
The 8v gained power with every upgraded management system until the last (motronic 5.1) the original carbed version would have been a very sedate animal mellow.gif

The only reason i swapped my VSX for an Exclusive was the air con. Sitting in a traffic jam in the middle of summer with the XM's volume of glass is like being in a greenhouse. I'm a sucker for leather too, and the blue velour in the VSX was horrible looking (though a lot warmer than leather in the winter). The only one I really hated was the one with alcantra - compared to the full leather it was really poor quality and naff looking.

Re TCT vs 2.0i I've had both and the latter was more responsive, but the TCT felt more solid and less inclined to kickdown (ie more torquey). Never had an XM manual; I'm one of those who thinks the whole XM experience suits an auto - who wants to change gear when you've got the armrest?

Mind you I did have a '98 Xantia exclusive; don't know what the engine was but it was manual, 2.0 and was VERY fast. -- pi**ed all over the XM in terms of acceleration.
