I might give them a call tomorrow, assuming someone hasn't bought it already. It's odd that some cars go in a flash for amazing money, and others which look instantly more appealing just sit about.
The greenish/greyish one I bought was in hindsight a really great buy. Stuart at Brodie's in London where it's being given the old once-over seems to rate it - bar a few dents and that scrape on the offside front arch it's a nice old beast. New spheres and (as a precaution) the timing belt and pump and it'll do me another 70,000 miles! The only obvious thing against this particular petrol turbo car is that it's a revolting deep green that reminds me of the seventies tiling in my bathroom - before I set about it with a hammer and chisel. Green is really one of those love it or hate it colours on a car. Although maybe I'm just making excuses not to buy so I don't have to explain to the wife how I've managed to acquire three XMs This post has been edited by ThwartedEfforts on February 25, 2009 11:37 pm -------------------- 97 'R' XM 2.0i SX Saloon Auto

Makes you wonder how some of the other members on here get away with it Aren't there any other nicer coloured ones anywhere then? there should be, they where quite a popular model, no sense in getting a car in the wrong colour and trim, i would have a drive see what your missing then wait for an exclusive to appear, gives you time to sell the SX too so you don't have to explain why you have 3 XM's D -------------------- 92 xm 20i prestige auto (modified)R.P 5678

What's the general concensus. Is an Exclusive more desirable and worth more than a VSX.? |

Well my Vsx is fine but it has no A/C, i think that was an option though, the rest is fine, electric cloth seats, headlamp washers, trip computer etc etc ample spec indeed.

I just can't see why everyone get's so bogged down by trim levels and badges. Sure, the desired
mechanical spec will dictate the trim probably if you must have an auto with air con etc but surely the engine and fundamentally the body colour are what decides whether you want to part with your hard earned or not. Not whether it has a fancy radio, front spot lights, electric armrest the engine or box, these things can all be retrofitted if you really really must have that particular gegaw to play with. Not even sure if electric climate or AC are entirely necessary unless regular visits to the South of France are required either! What are you trying to say Andrew???? that the armrest is pointless????? To my mind, yes you are right but when it comes to cars of this age there is little or no price difference between the specs so just get the highest spec you can find, although i got a base model garnished with dealer glitter to help shift them on ready for the MK2 launch and it was ok, all you really need is leccy mirrors, sunroof and windows, A/C, the rest is just gimicks, and i will take as many as i can thnak you D -------------------- 92 xm 20i prestige auto (modified)R.P 5678

I did say these 'extras' could be retrofitted if you really must probably with you in mind Dean
albeit not consciously!! But that's just me being totally off my head... Andrew |

My ideal car is my S2 plus air con. I don't want faux pine on the dash and I don't want electric anything. I think I've had leccy seats on the last ten or more cars I've owned prior to falling in love with XMs, and having adjusted them immediately after purchase they never moved again. In fact the only time the electric mirrors on my S-Class were adjusted was after the ECU went wrong and they started rolling about on their own!
I would also be very careful to avoid Exclusive XMs as they all seem to come with leather, and the XM has reminded me how much I hate it. When I get odd looks from people suckered in by the whole leather deal I tell them the tale of Rolls-Royce - leather was always the material used for the driver's seat as it was hard wearing, waterproof and plain. The passengers in the back sat on fine cloth -------------------- 97 'R' XM 2.0i SX Saloon Auto

I have two exclusives, and there's no leather in either of them. For the 94-95 year at least, only the V6 had leather as standard, all others came with 'Diamant Velvet' (velour) unless the customer paid extra. My drivers seat is starting to wear through now.....typical Personally, I like the grey pinstripe VSX seats, and they're quite hard wearing. -------------------- 94M 2.0 Turbo Exclusive auto hatch, Green, RP 6552

Interesting. I'd assumed the Exclusives all came with moo cow, and that's certainly the case today - I tried to get my C5 with plain old cloth but it's not possible. Same with equivalent cars like the Skoda Superb - the moment you go above a certain trim level you have no say in all the pointless nonsense they ladle onto the options list.
Anyway as my C5 is a car that'll be transporting kids around not long from now, I'll be the first to admit that leather makes more sense... when it comes to drinks and ice cream and sick it's preferable -------------------- 97 'R' XM 2.0i SX Saloon Auto

C5 Exclusives in France don't always have leahter, they have a type of velour, almost a velvet effect, quite nice, but deceiving also, you see the exclusive badge on the car, then no leahter!

Velour was a no cost option factory fit for UK Exclusive XM's but only with the long delay of a special order. Some Citroen dealers did swap trim between new cars to cater for the odd good customer that wanted cloth and the car quickly.

Hi
My first S2 V6 Exclusive had Alcantra (or however you spell the stuff) edge-ings and cloth seat centres as well as all the usual heated seats/electrics. It was an unusual combo but probably my favourite. Cheers Tony |

Back to the car in question. I've never driven the non turbo 2L but I've had 2L turbos in manual and automatic. The automatic was smooth but very heavy on petrol - and it may be that this means there isn;t much difference between and the non turbo 2L. However, the 2L turbo manual is a different story. It's really nippy and much more economical than the auto. I suspect that people who can't tell the difference between the two forms of 2Ls have not driven the 2L turbo manual. And if you don't thrash it, it's much economical than the 3L can ever be - especially with judicious use of the 5th gear. For me its the best of both worlds.

You must be mad for considering swapping! Once you have a nice Xm, its best to hold onto it. We have tried to replace ours a few times, with a late model VSX which turned out to be an odd machine, so we sold it on for peanuts, we have tried to get a couple of estates but they have not been great examples either. Good ones are out there, but i can't find them! So the 2.0 SX hatch is staying, the 2.0 isnt really that slow, you get the nice dual zone heating with the Sx too. Although the cruise would be nice, you wouldnt use it? I use cruise a lot of the time, very nice feature to any car, if only the Xm had it, would be the perfect motorway car. The Turbo would be a nice addition for performance, but then you withh get less MPG and the TCT is an 8V and the 2.0 a 16V. You already have a turbo, keep the faithful SX -------------------- 1995 'N' XM 2.1TD VSX Manual Estate, magenta red - 62K miles
