Hi all, any suggestions as to which type of bulbs to use to replace my main beams as they're like candles compared to the Hid's installed in the dipped beams ?

Hi Colin
I have transformed the lighting on mine simply by removing the plastic lens and metal hood and cleaning the reflector. The dipped lights are now as good as most new cars. I think I did a help file on this sometime back, if you can't find it I will repeat the info. Peter.N. -------------------- Used to have:

Hi Colin
I have recently got some new bulbs for mine, from an ebay seller called 'Power bulbs', yes it sounds a bit tacky but they where cheap and the bulbs work well. They are Xenon ones at the standard 55w but the light is an almost perfect white, a massive improvement on the standard Halogen ones i had in there. Dean I bought two sets off that Power Bulbs guy about a year ago.
They're quite a nice bulb, with good light quality (and very white as you mention). The only downside I found was that they seem to have quite a short life (6-9 months in some cases). Only issue I had with the company in question was that the order page only let you specify one item per order, as I wanted two sets I enquired what I should do, and was told 'just fill out the order page twice'. I did so, and was charged twice (about 4 quid each) for delivery. Of course, the items both arrived in one envelope. I raised the fact I had been charged twice for the delivery, but they weren't interested and I never really persued it to be honest, probably more my fault than theirs. They were also quite dismissive of some other customer comments about the bulb lifetime on another forum where they advertised. Besides all that though the bulbs themselves are good IMO. Hi Ciaran
I will have to see how long they last then, interestingly i have had one fail already but it wasnt the filament that burnt out, it just stopped working?!!??!. I do find that performance bulbs in general do not last as long as standard Halogen ones though. Good to have more than one opinion though. I had a similar experience with ebay bulbs. I won't buy off there now. They seem to be cheap rubbish. They lasted a few weeks only.

Hi
I have Nightbreakers in the XM. They do seem much better. Strangely they seem to have lasted well but in my Mark VII Honda accord neither the Nightbreakers or the Phillips bulb have lasted any time at all and since the lights are great I've gone back to standard bulbs (working lights are much better than great bulbs that aren't working Cheers Tony |
