Sounds a very nice car, got any pictures yet?
I doubt there are many lower mileage S1 diesels around now no, nice to see this one has gone to a good home Chris. -------------------- 1995 'N' XM 2.1TD VSX Manual Estate, magenta red - 62K miles

I was hoping for some cleaner brighter pics
It is quite an unusual colour. Chris. -------------------- 1995 'N' XM 2.1TD VSX Manual Estate, magenta red - 62K miles

Well, it's Platinum if it's the same as my v6:

Loads of early ones were that grey colour. One could almost wonder whether they only made them in blue, grey and red for the first two years.

Will post pics tomorrow.
My only real gripe with the car at the moment is the fact it smells rather diesely inside. Is this something they're known for or could something be blocked/leaking somewhere? -------------------- 97 'R' XM 2.0i SX Saloon Auto

Could be a split in the wee leak back pipes between the injectors, they can harden and crack with age.
Failing that it could be one of the gaskets in the pump, but I wouldn't imagine so at this low mileage. Could also be one of the rubber fuel supply hoses which come up the back of the engine and goto to the filter housing / primer, though normally if they leak, air gets in and it'll get running problems, so probably not that. Have a look around the injector / pump areas for any signs of diesel leakage. If the areas dirty or theres been a bit of a spill already, you might need to clean it up (small household steam cleaner is good for this), and check to see if it comes back. My S2 kept getting a diesel / oil smell inside and I couldn't work out where it was coming from. Eventually I cleaned it all up and discovered it was the pump seals, but I would doubt that being the problem in your case. Ciarán -------------------- '95 XM 2.1TD VSX Hatch: RP 6429. Rare green ;-)

For the diesel smell check the high pressure and delivery valve unions into the end of the pump.
Run the engine and watch with a torch for drips. This really stinks as the fuel gets blow back onto the hot engine. Nice cheap fix though.. |

Thanks DM will check. Here's a rather crappy pic of a very dirty car, but it does I hope highlight the colour -- something which by now you must know I'm rather taken with

You're right, it ain't! It's definitely greener than my V6 pic and seeing your new piccy
I realise it's the same as a TCT 2.0i manual I've got - paint code is ERZCR (beside the battery). I agree. Nice colour! Andrew |

It'll look a lot better after a valet - everything you said about one-owner cars is true of this one mate, and I'll not be quite so keen to jump into another. The good thing about a change of keeper is that the new owner (in this case, me) will get around to fixing all the niggles that the prior owner never bothered with - such as as the fact the dash doesn't illuminate or there's an unpleasant whiff of diesel when you get in.
Oh, and by the way, whoever suggested it might just be dead lamps rather than anything more sinister - you were right. They're ALL blacked and blown! Have just spent a happy hour rummaging around behind the dash (reminds me of my yoof). One of the heater knobs is split at the end of its plastic shaft but since the others are showing signs of cracking I'm guessing they all do that eBay here I come... -------------------- 97 'R' XM 2.0i SX Saloon Auto

That is quite a nice rare colour
Looks in good condition too, i think there are mobile companies who can repair scuffed black bumper trims, might be worth consideration if your after a floorless car Just about every s1 i can remember seeing has been maroon, there used to be 3 just within a mile of my house! Blue was the next popular and then grey. Its unusual to see any other colours S1 Its very nice, good company for your s2 too!
