Hi all

I have decided to go for an HID kit and would like to know others' opinions about the best "K" grade to buy. I understand that 6000K is the most "normal" looking color? What about 4300K -it is described as "extreme white"-? Is it looking too "artificial"?

Thanks for sharing your expereriences.

cheers
George

Hi George

3000K gives the same yellowish colour of normal Halogen bulbs.
4300K gives a very white light. You will notice the sidelights now look very yellow.
6000K gives bluish white light.
Beyond this you move through blue to purple coloured light output.

They usually only supply 3000K as special order/extra charge.
I have 6000K on one on road car and 4300K on the other.
I prefer the look of the 4300K and will stick to this if I get more for the currently SORN cars.

Regards

XMexc

Thanks xmexcl and Colin,

I think then I'll go for the 4300K also, they are also described as brighter than the 6K -3100 lumens vs. 2900-.

cheers
G

hi G

does yours have headlight washers?
I've been thinking of doing HID conversion on my V6, but not too certain on the legals of no h/l washers. Obviously self-level is fine, if not better than the non-hyd cars solution.

The legal thing has been mentioned on here a few times, but to be honest I don't think anyone will give a monkeys. Providing all your lights work and the beams are set correctly who is going to say they are illegal? Plod are too busy, the mot tester is up to his eyes in it and if they make your Xm safer to drive at night where's the problem?

Hi G.

Looks pretty good that kit. Why buy in Australian dollars, better exchange rate?

If I wasn't wanting to change my XM I'd fit a HID kit.

Steve.

Legal issues, I think Demag is just right, so many of us have them now, MOT testers are used, most importantly I've not read anybody having had trouble, I wouldn't touch them if I had...

Steve, AU $$ was how that auction was set up, there were others in US $ also but not for 4300K. I think it's just the seller trying to maximise his gains by playing various currencies now that the US $ is going down compared to most other currencies...-btw I read yesterday the AU $ is to go up as interest rates are expected to go up overthere pretty soon, could the Chinese seller be so good? could be-.

Are you changing your XM, thought you were keeping hold of the 2.5 estate?

cheers
George

Hi George,

I've never really been terribly happy with the estate. Compared to the hatch I had I'm not as impressed by the ride. Don't get me wrong it very good but not as comfy, it all works OK and it's have a full set of spheres and a HA ECU diode mod. I'm not as keen on the looks of it, it's too normal! Finally it's bigger than I need. Parking on the road is getting so bad I'm struggling to get it on and off the drive at times.

The engine seems fine since having the work done but then again it should, replacement head, turbo service, bigger intercooler rad, heater matrix, clutch, etc. So I'm looking out for an Exclusive hatch, maybe 2.1 or CT. The CT turbo could have LPG fitted too...

Steve.

I see...I also prefer the hatch shape...a CT LPG sounds very tempting indeed.

Irrespectively, speaking of the 2.5 suspension, have you ever read the fault codes off the ecu? They could be read with the new reader you have, I guess? My car also had all new spheres, diodes, *and* the pressure regulator tuned, and still it was "not-so-soft"...Could you simply have a sensor fault?

cheers
George
