Which Diagnostic Socket

Hi Guys,

Having been asking around regarding my present ECU lamp issue, as well as the kind offer of help on the forum, I've been offered some laptop usable kit from elsewhere that allegedly should be able to read the brain, etc. Thing is, I've been asked which OBD socket I have 1 or 2 ? Well -- it's a '96 build 2.5, so I'm hoping one of you out there has the answer -- please !!!

Hi Mike,

The only cheaper kit that I know can read K & L line stuff is the Uniscan kit and maybe the ELM readers. I've got a Uniscan but due to difficulty in getting the appropriate equipment I haven't used it yet. As far as I know the XMs aren't OBD sockets.

Do you know what the kit was?

Another problem if you can read the codes are that they can be generic (definitely the case with modern OBD codes).

I recently made a casual enquiry to an internet seller of diagnostic kit (talktomycar.co.uk) re my 1996 2.1TD and they recommended a 'MaxiDiag FR704 Diagnostic Scanner for French Vehicles' which apparently covers Citroen, Peugeot and Renault vehicles from 1996 onwards.

Has anyone had any experience of this scanner?

Hi Ken, i have the maxidiag 704, it is limited to hp20 g/box and airbag,i presume because these are not cit specific.The unit came with obd11 interface - no use for the xm - and an update and setup disc for laptop.I have sourced a 30 pin interface, but at £57+vat+delivery i've baulked at accuiring it given the limited use or the diagnostic tester (having hp18 g/box and fault free airbag).I am still researching whether with some jiggery pokery i can get it to read cit diagnostic language, but at the moment no luck.

Not sure if you've seen a Lexia in action before? This is the sort of live data you can read. This is taken from my C5 HDi.
