Hi all

Got the vsx turbo today which turned out to be an estate when i got there, which was scary bearing in mind i thought it was a hatch, which was tight on the trailer anyway let alone an estate with was super tight.

Whats it like? well hows this for a free car, everything works ohmy.gif , windows, roof, intact imobiliser flap, headlamp washers with covers all intact that work, in fact the only problem is two stripes missing from the dot matrix.
The body is pristine in a dark graphite grey (nearly black biggrin.gif ) and the interior is lovely, the boot looks like its never been used ohmy.gif .

Now the bad bits, it needs a track rod end and drop link, both on the n/s, back bumper cracked, and inner n/s light unit smashed, it needs a patch of weld by a seat belt mount for the mot, emissions are sorted now biggrin.gif , and a bit of oil sorted out the fact you could only get 50% of the throttle (the mechanism was seized solid) it also gave coolant low and washer low warnings but that's sorted now too......well i couldn't help but fix them quickly.
The main thing is 2 leaking rear struts are on the failure sheet, but the ground was wet and i didn't get under and look at them, it didn't drop any oil though so could be mot man fibs, we shall see.

Now the engine? 170k on the clock with fcsh..............and its like new ohmy.gif the coolant is like blue spring water and the oil is golden syrup colour, no smoke, no rattle, it is like what i would expect from an engine with 30k on it.
The hydraulic pump is a bit rattly but fine, you cant hear it in the cabin and i think a tensioner or the alternator may have a dry bearing but didn't pay much attention its only a very slight noise you cant hear it with the bonnet down.

Its going to break my heart to break this car sad.gif

Dean

I did show an interest; just don't like auto's. I have gone on record as saying
you shouldn't break it if it's a good car - for the sake of an engine. blink.gif

Do you want a 2.0i TCT engine with low miles already removed out of the car to
spare this estate being scrapped - pal of mine could be very interested although
the rear struts may be hassle? A perfect set of estate rear rams/arm have only
recently been scrapped due to being up against time.

Now it's on the island I'm guessing it's fate is secured?

Andrew

<<edit - there's plenty more out there at the moment - so I'll see what my pal
decides he wants to do - so as you were Dean! Shame to scrap a good car that
simply needs a bit of enthusiast TLC>>

Im with you Andrew but,

A, If i didnt take it, it would have been scrapped

B, I didnt get to look at it until i got back obviously and its £135 to trailer it over on the ferry

C, i need all the ecu wiring inter cooler, rad, dot matrix and trip computer etc etc to perform the upgrade

It's a damn shame but what do you do? it was offered for two weeks before i took it, its sad, but its fate was sealed before i got to it im afraid, if no one buys em.............

If you want to come to the island and swap it for the stuff i need you can take the car but i cant afford to do anything with it at the moment after that ferry fare, that swmbo doesn't know about by the way unsure.gif

That does look nice Dean, estates are nice but you can struggle to get a double mattress in there! ;-)

Is that sideways Steve? laugh.gif it looks like i could get a whole volkswagen golf in the back of this estate biggrin.gif

Interestingly this is the first mk2 ive been able to drive and generally play with, and i have found a few things.........i dont like the mirrors they are so small and narrow but you can see all of the nearside one biggrin.gif , i hate the spring in the brake pedal because it feels a little uncitroen and vague, the dash has nowhere to stand stuff and i get a little unnerved staring at an airbag whilst driving along. The alarm fob can lock the car at more than 3 paces though, and why was the stereo made to stand out in the open like every other car when it was hidden away from thieving eyes behind a cover before? The mk2 seems a little better insulated though and seems to feel a bit quieter inside.

Also the turbocharged 8v engine is surprisingly compact, when the intake piping is out of the way there is more room and things are more accessible than my 8v n/a, i think its because the turbo loses that massive intake manifold you get in the n/a which almost takes up more room under the bonnet than the engine does .

What do you think?

It does look in reasonable condition and with full citroen history?! Seems a shame to break it, but im not sure many people would want it.

Dean, will you be putting the engine straight in or rebuilding it all first?

Dean,

Are both of the rear struts leaking?

If not I might be interested if they are the same as a Series 1 Diesel estate.

Dean are you putting that in your S1?

I've often toyed with the idea I must admit....

Be shame to break it Dean, but if you don't want to keep it just MOT it and sell it that might mean you loose money I guess.

Anyway, if you DO break it can I bagsy the mirrors including covers and the interior mirror switches? the O/S one on the VSX is totally f****d (glass just stays in but plastic motor driving bits broken, and the shell is broken too probably MOT failure plus the N/s one doesn't move at all except sometimes when it decides to give me a view of the sky (it stopped doing that for a while but started again the other day). I'm really starting to suspect the switch. Oh, and the n/s interior door handle surround would make mine look more presentable.

As for both front wings and bumper, its probably uneconomic to think about getting those from you (they ARE the same on estate and saloon presumably, but different S1 vs S2?) but the front end really is a mess on mine and even if it scrapes thru the MOT with some cable ties etc I'd like to sort it out properly some day.

btw re S2 mirrors they have one advantage over S1 mirrors, they don't just fall off after one (or maybe two) decent whacks, although as above I and fellow Bristol drivers have conspired to finally
decimate on of them on my VSX_, however I much prefer everything except the price of the proper Citroen glass rather than stick on replacements with weird magnification and tinting.

S1 dash rules, I'm with you on that, no flat surfaces on the S2.

Can you fit a S2 radio alarm/plip etc to an S1 I wonder?
