I'd say get it sorted!

The real biggie are the pipes - by brake lines does this mean the rubber flexies? They're cheap
enough and quite easily doable.

The main hydraulic pipes may very well respond to a thorough DIY wire brushing/anti rusting
and repainting - worked wonders for me. I use matte black paint and they look the business!

Fan panel isn't MOT but just an irritation. Headlamp and coolant bottle will turn up on ebay!

For the outlay of modest money it'd be better than spending loads on another car that's hiding
loads of nasties and expense waiting to mug you once it's purchased.

Andrew

I agree, get it fixed. Or as Andrew mentions you may well only end up with a car which needs similar work.

Pipes are not that much of a problem, its worrying me that my Xm has never needed any yet, im going to get them checked and replace and iffy looking ones. However, there are people who can make up pipes for a fairly cheap cost.

Everything else sounds pretty easy to fix really, its quite a late model too. Providing its in good condition its probably worth saving.

If its the pipes supplying the rear suspension spheres, they tend to rust at the spheres. New ones from Citroen are over £100 for the two and are difficult to replicate due to the flexible hose section. A cheap fix may be feasible if suitable "end" lengths can be made up providing there are sound pieces left to join them to.
The other items are insignificant in XM cost terms.
I am surprised the car is to be scrapped for the repairs listed. Perhaps someone would be prepared to take it on at an agreed repaired price. That may be better financially than breaking.

Robert

How strange with the pipes..

Never come accross a Xantia OR an XM with pipe problems!!!!

The BX was awfull for killing pipes, even after the 1989 coating of pipes on them!!

The only pipes of late ive been getting advisories on is the front Flexi hoses from calliper to body....

Ive seen a few Xantias and the odd Xm with pipes needing reneweing. When my dad used to service citroens we would use a mobile guy who would make the pipes to the exact shape for the cars.
