It's not an XM and it looks slightly German but it's mine and it's nicer to ride about in than the C6.

Only thing missing is a heads up display. Fixed steering boss is great, stereo awful, could do with a touch more space for us six-foot-plussers.

Low speed ride the best of any recent air sprung Citroen.

Hi

Nice looking car in my opinion. Whats the 2.0 auto go like? It's a pity they don't seem to want to do the 2.2 twin turbo with an auto. I'd be interested in that.

I take it that this is not steel sprung?

Cheers

Same. Had it come in 2.2 tt auto form I'd have bought it instead.

The 2.0 HDi isn't a fast car but then it's not meant to be. Have not been too impressed with the economy so far (36mpg overall) but it's currently being used for short hops rather than long hauls.

It's an Exclusive so is Hydractive 3+

Hi

It's strange how you consider that diesel engines and auto's are usually a great combo how few are sold apart from top end cars and XMs! I guess that it's an economy thing. You buy a diesel for economy then you don't want to negate that by adding an auto.

36MPG would seem to be about right for a heavy car like the C5 II with a 2.0 diesel auto. My Accord 2.2 diesel does about 43-45MPG.

The newer dual clutch autos will probably come to citroen eventually. The 2.0 diesel in the focus has a double clutch gearbox, called powershift, which is meant to work fabulously (better than the VAG double cluch) and give slightly better enconomy than the the manual. I guess that this is probably the same base engine as yours.

Tony

When buying new, an oil-burner makes better sense in terms of resale and servicing. If you ignore the fact an auto undoes a little of a diesel engine's economy, it still ekes out more miles per gallon than the equivalent petrol - and the petrol choices for the C5 are pretty poor anyway. Hence the decision!

Very nice, they are a very smart looking car, really like the steering wheel, a nice touch. Nice spec on yours too.

You could have hoovered it tongue.gif

Im all for diesels, i prefer the drive of them (generally) to the equivalent petrol engine (2.0 16v in your C5). As you say it will hold its value better and is more desirable so it will sell better. Although at 36MPG and the current difference in fuel prices, i would imagine your Xm is cheaper to run?

Could I ask why it's nicer to ride around in than a C6? I've not been in either but given the chance would.

Thanks.

Steve.

'bout the same. For everyday commuting I prefer the XM as it provides a far higher dose of what you might call 'road anaesthetic' - I don't want to feel the surface of any of the roads near me, thank you very much.

Low speed ride on the C6 is quite poor, mainly (I suspect) a result of its oversized wheels. It also tends to pitch and wallow over crests and dips where the C5 simply doesn't. My local Citroen dealer - from whom I've bought a number of cars now - confided in me that he thought the same thing, i.e. that the C5 is a more "sorted" car than its bigger brother. The C6 does look like a Citroen, but when it comes to the all important magic carpet ride it tries too hard to live in the past. What you end up with is not a fine blend of old and new but a curious mix of air suspension's various foibles. An AirMATIC E- or S-Class does it so much better.

In my humble opinion cool.gif

Thanks for the info. It's a real disappointment to hear the top Citroen isn't as good as it should be, still that saves me wanting one I suppose. Would I be correct in assuming you mean compared to the MK2 C5?

Steve.

Yes, compared to my car.

The C6 really isn't a bad car by any means. Its striking and very non-German appearance plus generously roomy interior, comfortable seating and non-gimmick technology (like the truly wonderful heads-up display) might make people think hard about it. But it's too much money and just two years down the line you'll have lost half of what you paid.

thats perfect. providing there are enough 2nd hand or ex-demo C6s to go round us lot who will shortly be posting on club-c6.

nice looking and quirky enough cars so its got to be on the horizon if they get cheap enough.
