Last night, some charming individuals gave my AX a kicking. They've stoved in the window on the drivers side, battered both doors that side so that they won't open, and destroyed both mirrors. Here's the rub - I was going to scrap it next week anyway. The insurance will only pay out abourt £200, since that's all the car was worth (they're bound to write off a £200 car for that sort of damage). This was a new policy last year (second car), so I only have 1 year's no claims; my premium this year is £225. If I report it and claim, I'll get £200 back, lost a year's no claims, but will they also reassess my risk based on this vandalism? If that's the case, I'm better off just quietly scrapping it as planned. Any thoughts?

Whats the excess on the policy?

If you've got a reasonable excess it might not be worth declaring a claim on next years insurance if your only going to make a couple of quid from it.

Bad luck Sam,

Doesn't it make you want to break their fingers, slowly and one at a time. I had a Volvo written off once when someone torched it. As the value was similar to your AX I didn't claim but I think my no claims was greater than yours. So I don't really know what to say. Thinking about it I would go the scrapyard route. But that's just my opinion.

That's what I'm going to do, but yes, I could break their legs. Slowly.

If you were going to scrap it id still be going down that route. You will only make a very small amount from claiming, probably not worth the hassle.

Very bad luck though, i would be livid, just be thankful it wasnt your XM! unsure.gif

Sorry to hear of whats happened Sam, I would say if you dont have protected no claims dont bother either but it's not really the point is it, its the fact that some little **** would do that to someone else's possessions, but i suppose thats the way it is now sad.gif
