They look like 195/60/15. Although you could have

195/65/15 - standard S2 2.0 & 2.1 tyre size.
205/60/15 - standard on S2 2.0TCT - so maybe the size you would want?
205/65/15 - standard on 2.5TD

Chris.

The nicest riding XM was on 195/65s so I may consider going to that size.

I don't drive fast and I'd rather put the comfort first.

I need to keep my eyes open for a set of nice looking wheels, those alloys on MFs car suit the angular lines very well. Do these still come up for sale?

Thanks.

Steve.

I've got some somewhere lying about off the cars as I actually don't like them
- mind, the wheeltrim covers are harder to find than the alloys as they fly off
very easily and they're 33quid each. They get grotty easily too on the outer
vulnerable rim where metal weights wreck havoc with the soft aluminium.

The rims are 220quid each new!

Hmm if they're that much trouble I'll pass.

What are wobbly webs like with 65 profile tyres? And are these easy to get hold of?

Thanks.

Steve.

Im with Andrew (we agree a lot!) about the wheels, not one my my favourite Xm wheel deisgns, but they do quite suit the early models.

Wobby webs, well i have 195/60 STILL, ive been waiting to get the van empty so i can take all 8 wheels down to the tyre place to have my tyres swapped, but the weather has been too bad recently. My plan is to get them done next week though.

So mine still has the iffy 195/60s which i did not intend to use. The ride is ever so slightly harder than with the 195/65s i had on before. Something i need to do when i remove them to get the tyres fitted is weigh them against the standard steels and see which is heavier. I suspect the steel is heavier, it certainly feels it to pick up.

So im yet to see what the 195/65s are like on them, they certainyl handle well and ride better than the 60s, they should sit nice on the wobby webs too. The 60s are too small, they leave a huge gap around the wheels in the arches.

Wobby webs do come up at times, keep an eye on ebay. The 24v wheels seem more popular on ebay, but i think id have to say the wobbly wbes are the best design, which is why i wanted some!

Chris.

Hi Tim

That doesnt look too good sad.gif , is the rust confined to just the rear subframe or has it got into the shell of the car aswell?
I would be tempted by a new subframe too, I do have a spare rolling mk1 hatch frame but getting it to you would no doubt be a costly exercise, maybe there is a member closer to you who has such an item they would be willing to part with to clean up a very smart lookng MK1 cool.gif

Good luck with
D
