Guys,
My XM (running brilliantly)has two remote alarm plippers (or keyfobs). Recently, one of them stopped working, so I bought and fitted a new battery. The LED in it is now very bright when the button is pressed, but it doesn't lock or unlock the car. The other one works just fine, so I know that things are working correctly at the car end. If I wanted to replace the faulty keyfob, what do I do? Dealer only? If you replace the battery, do you have to re-set the fob in some way before it will work? I've seen lots of other xm/xantia remote fobs on ebay, but figure that these will need to be coded or something to open my particular car? Kind Regards Duncan |

Hi Duncan,
Try this: switch on the ignition, then press the top button on the " faulty" plip. It may then work ok. Hope I have got that right, if not someone will be along with the correct one. Trying it will do no harm. All to do with alternating codes I believe. Robert. |

Hi Duncan
There are different types for a S1 or2. 1 has infra red and 2, RF. The RF plips are very prone to dry joints. If you take the PCB out and examine it with a magnifying glass, or your eyes if you'r young, you will likely see that one or more components have become detached, with care and a very small tip soldering iron you can resolder them. I seem to recall that the plip keyfob should be held up near the sensor in the roof (above the windscreen) and the button should then be pressed with the ignition on, to reset it. -------------------- Xantia 2 litre HDi Saloon X reg 1999

For the RF ones, there is no sensor in the roof. That is the process to code a keyfob to the car with most PSA IR keyfobs (I don't know of the XM IR ones can be paired to different cars or not). A similar process is used to sync the RF ones to the car. This is not pairing a keyfob from a different car - that is coded into the electronics. It is just re-syncronising the car to the keyfob if they get out of sync (which they can if you replace the battery in the keyfob). It doesn't matter where you hold it to do this since it is RF and should pick up the signal good and strong from anywhere inside the car. -------------------- 94M XM 2.5 TD VSX Estate RP 6430 Forest Green
