Hi all,

Just back from a week away without the XM and took it out for a spin... only to find a couple of niggling faults sad.gif

I'll refer to the other in the general section but this one's electrical...

Turned it on and I noticed the automatic gear selector wasn't on on the right hand dial arrangement. I've tried the obvious things of switching the lights on and off and adjusting the dash brightness control but to no avail.

I noticed after a while though that you can just make out P, R, N, D, etc from some angles but very faintly. So, my assumption is a bulb has failed behind that little window (the oil level, fuel gauge, etc all light up as before so no problem).

Question 1 is "is this more likely to be an instrument bulb failure than anything else?" and 2 "how difficult is it to get to the back of the instrument panel to replace it?"

Thanks in advance

Keith

Hi Kieth

Have put a few comment on the gear display in with my reply on the rear seat problem.

Hi again folks

I reckon that the bulb behind the gear selector display must be blown. Now, I've looked at the self-help files and the one about taking the dash apart looks a nightmare to a novice like me! I know this is cheeky, but is there anyone within a reasonable travelling distance of Lincoln who'd be prepared to have a go (with me as labourer)?

Secondly, I've mentioned a few times before about my boot light failing to work. I've since discovered that the light does flicker on gently if the car is rocked fore and aft. I assumed it was a normal electrical connection for the light but is it some sort of tilting device actually setting the light off built into the tailgate? I've played with the wire and stuff behind the cover on the boot sill but no joy.

It's a 99T hatchback by the way.

Cheers

Keith

Hi, Keith,

Just noticed your post re the boot light. The boot light switch is operated by the small spring loaded flap at centre bottom of the boot opening, there's no other device so it looks as if you have a dodgy supply.

Thanks Derek

Yes, I'm aware of the flap and brass connectors - I reckon it must be a loose connection. Although, you'll understand my question when again, this evening, I opened the tailgate about half way up and no light. As soon as it reached its upper extremity - ping, on comes the light!

Cheers

Keith,

We aren't too far apart, I'm in Sibsey about 5 miles north of Boston on the A16. Perhaps we could meet up sometime?
