I've not investigated this myself as lack of funds (and garage) precludes me even though I'm tempted.

I 'phoned up about this.

It's been used as a taxi for the last two years and has been subject to twice-yearly inspections and MOTs. Has flown though the last four MOTs. Mileage is 209,000 - seller says this explains the price he's asking. No reliability issues - seller says it needs to be reliable for the work it does.

Belts done 30,000 miles ago. New front spheres.

It's metallic red with - get this - BEIGE leather!

The seller said there are no rust issues.

He's selling because he got a good deal on a Rover 75. He's not sure yet that he's making the right change. smile.gif

I would have thought that despite the mileage, the fact it's been subject to inspections and tests by the licensing authority must make this a good bet?

Wonder how well she's stood up to the rigors of being a working girl!?
Shame there aren't any pictures...

Beige leather - must be quite a rare thing, esp. in an estate. Although i can imagine its quite worn being a taxi.

For £500 it would be a perfect workhorse for someone, cheap, very cheap.

Hi John

SWMBO is very supportive (this time) as she is looking forward to both the train trip down and the drive back next day. Told her last week on the way to Norfolk for a few days. The present car in use needed the battery swapped to get it to start for that trip so she could see the need for me to SORN it for a while to work on it so it is ready with its aircon for next summer.

Seems like a posting by Lez in another thread would explain why he is selling the car, it seems some local authorities are trying to get old taxi's off the roads...............maybe a new legislation has forced the sale???
Well done anyway John, one step closer to the Winchester XM (2.5) centre laugh.gif

Well done on the purchase, yes please do post up some pictures (not enough of us do on here wink.gif ) i want to see the beige leather!

No not something i wanted andrew, it would probably need an amount of TLC and the mileage put me off a little. No reason it should mind, i know they can do it.

Hi All

Well it made the 250 mile journey home without any problems. Made a few diversions on the way for Christmas shopping which proved a touch expensive. A small string of the usual sort of issues expected from a high mileage (210k) 2.5 TD XM. Engine running temperature has a strange variation that I have not seen before (correct normally but goes cold at sustained speed). Clutch very light as always with the hydraulic version but the bite is a bit high suggesting a good degree of wear. Tan interior is original as the carpet matches. It has suffered as badly as the more usual Mk2 Grey leather & suede does so has not survived anywhere near as well as I would have expected Black leather to. This may be because of the quality of the leather which looks to be poorer than any of the grades of Citroen Black that I have seen. Will need to check this out before deciding on the restoration.

John
