Well you are of course absolutly right, if i used my car for commuting i would do 23 miles a day in stop start traffic so with all piss taking aside, electric would be a good alternative but would it work out cheaper in the long run than buying a £200 1L banger and nursing it on for a few years thats the thing?

Even with low tech old fashioned systems it was cheaper to deliver milk using electric vehicles. Bit slow for 'modern' conditions though.

Their duty cycle is the ultimate in stop start, the advantage being that the round was the same every day and so endurance could be predicted.

As has been said horses for courses.

Now if we could find a way of delivering power to the cars on the road, pantograph like bumper cars or tracks like scalextrix then the battery could be really small just to cover the bits off the main road. The cars coud be seriously powerful with the mains behind them, that would be fun. Don't worry about all the electrocuted pedestrians and cyclists!!!
