Having just spent most of the spare cash on nice seats and radios and a new hub that has yet to turn up after a month for my Exclusive, it has started bleeding. There has bee a not so bad leak form the rack for some time, but nothing dramatic, however it now has one from under the LHM tank it seems, or somewhere in that area and it's loosing a significant amount. The FDV has always been damp, but I have never seen it drop fluid. I am running out of paitence with this example of the XM.. It's been more trouble than any of the others I have had sad.gif

Comiserations!

You know, when I got my unknown-history V6, it leaked small amounts in various places -needed 500ml/month-. I put it on Hydraflush as a matter o course and after 1,000mls the leaks stopped and is like that till today, 4 years later! I was not looking for this result, but this has proven that the whole circuit was *so* sludged and blocked at points, that some serious pressures were developing in it!! Very possibly the case with your FDV valve.

Obviously the leak under the LHM tank wouldn't be helped by that -could it be a rubber pipe broken, or even the tank itself cracked??-. Surely it'll be an easy fix if it's under the LHM tank?!

Good luck!

George

ps. sounds like that's a seriously nice XM (blue, cream leather....) !!

Is your XM as soft as it should be ??

...Well, again: is it ???

Mine is not as good...but quite near!

I think I have found the big leak.. but not sure.

The return pipe that is closest to the outer edge of the engine bay has had its clip replaced with a jubilee clip, and the top of the tank is coated in a fine layer of LHM. The end of this pipe is noticably wet compared to all th others, could this really be the cause of the leak?

Stewart

PS, its dark grey.. not blue

Yes it could, these return pipes tend not to be clean, at all times, and even more if they are not tied with the original Citroen clips (I've had all mine replaced with tie wraps this summer and the area is dirtier than before, but not like yours). Perhaps also the jubilee clip has damaged the rubber? Seems you need a closer inspection now. I'd clean the tank's surface and undo the suspected jubilee clip and check if the pipe is sound, then put back and check day-by-day to see if indeed this is the source of the dirt.

Could it also be that there's too much LHM in your XM -just checking-?

cheers
G

ps. don't know why I thought it was blue? I think there's the image of a dark blue S2 XM with cream leather stuck in my mind. Anyway, the grey looks equally elegant!

There was a blue Exclusive turbo on e-bay that fell to the the Pug205 squad of death that had the cream leather about a year back which might be why. (And its one I nearly bought but forgot the end time of the auction) itw as in shefford as I remeber.

I have never had an XM that doesn't leak fluid from somewhere, there are so many joints, some of which you cant even see that its almost impossible to find/cure them all. Steam cleaning is I think the only way to find the leaks, then you have to be pretty quick before everything oils up again. sad.gif
