1996 CITROEN XM VSX TURBO DIESEL GREEN ESTATE MOT & TAX
Bideford, Devon

user posted image

£99.99 with no reserve, currently 0 bids.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=120326246407

There is virtually NO information on the car except that it has 5 previous owners. One of the photos appears to show the car having done 196,000 miles, and the other confirms it's a manual. Would have been nice if the guy could have stood back a little from the car so it was actually in shot huh.gif

Has the 'old style' number plates still on it, and in appalling condition too, suggesting it's not had a whack front or rear since 2001.

The item was listed yesterday morning 30-Oct 11:25 on a 3-day auction, so it ends just before noon this Sunday. Peter's out this way, yes?

EDIT: Item ended 02-Nov-08 11:25:28 GMT

I saw that yesterday, they could have washed it for its pictures! Looks very uncared for.

"Hydraulics work" Thats a bit of an odd thing to say. People often think their suspension is fine since the car still goes up and down with the hight adjustment, although the suspension may be solid!

Apart from the missing info and the filthy car in the pics, it does seem to be a genuine car going by the read up and the plates ...

... My 96 Xm still has its original dealer plates back and front, they have lasted well!

Thats a very cheap estate, there is a risk of it being broken for bits i think. Still, for a £200 car (inc tax) its a lot of car which is would be taxed and tested for 6 months.

Can't be that bad for the starting bid. Hmmmmm, I like 2.5 power - I can now see where
xmexclusive is coming from with his particular collecting tendency!!

If nobody wants to bid, it's in a nice part of the world though the really rotten one came
from Exeter - must've been in the sea a few days of every week...

Whilst I'm not trying to buy any more cars, REALLY, the 2.5 engine does appeal to me,
a real diesel doubter and the maroon saloon I've got could be more effort and less versatile
than a road legal 2.5 estate in a colour I actually really like even if it's pictured dirty!!

Does anyone familiar with the 2.5's know whether the rattle noise referred to in the engine
could is a rattly aux belt spring tensioner like I've seen on the 2.1 TD's or is it actually the
small end about to let go on one of the cylinders!!?

Hi Andrew

Not the same sort of belt arrangement on the non aircon 2.5's so I doubt it is that.
As far as I can see the most important consideration is that it is not the weather to be driving it home without a heater working. There are no photos in which you can see the condition of the strut heads.

Anyone checked to see if the 100k miles black 2.5 exclusive actually sold yesterday. Edit note: Just checked and it did sell on friday.

John

At those prices they'll be keeping them as well!

Hi All

I have found that visiting a few of these XM specialist businesses gives you a much better understanding of their capabilities, strengths or otherwise. I look in to WH once in a while as we holiday/visit relatives in Norfolk at least twice a year.
I noted with interest their two 2.5's on ebay and just wondered what was the buying in prices of those cars. I also had seen the Brighton 2.5 but had discounted it as I do not want another VSX car. There were a couple of other things I noticed about it. Despite the N plate it is actually a very early built 2.5 just registered late (brown double relay near the strut head rather than on the front of the battery box) and the cill under the replaced door looks to need major work for the next MOT.
Perhaps Dean will buy it for the battery box cover.

John

I had noted at least one of Wolsey's ads say:

the code flap is missing on this one, and some of the pixel display on the dash is slightly corrupt

so I feel better about mine being in the exact same predicament smile.gif

Also... I'm not sure the prices are TOO wayward on at least one of their cars. With a £1,295 asking price for the 2.5 TD VSX Estate, I'm sure they'd take an offer of £900 or thereabouts?

Ah, ive seen that white estate advertised in the citroenian under the wolseleyhouse ad, but even their website doesnt provide pictures of their cars.

Id love that white estate, i think thats the best colour for them, looks pretty tidy too. Apart from the missing tow eye cover under the front bumper. Shame there isnt more pictures.

I wouldn't say its over priced either.

Shame its two registrations older than mine, i would like that though.

I had seen that red exclusive advertised elsewhere on the net, it looks in very good condition.

I think wolseleyhouse is a pretty good place to buy a good condition XM from, as so many ebay items seem scruffy and ill kept.

Just found this little review of the 2.0 SX estate.

Its an ok read, i particularily like this part:

" So large that you have to have a second look just to make sure your eyes are not deceiving you, this is a car so long the weather is probably different at either end."

Again, very little info on this one:

VSX Estate

Looks in good condition, and a good price - miles depending.

Alas I can't have a manual user posted image on a car I need to commute in.

And while I really prefer the look of an estate, I'm not sure I actually need all that vast acreage behind me... particularly as my C5 is a Tourer already!

I'm also getting pretty good gas mileage out of the 2.0i petrol lump in mine and for what I'm using it for it's plenty fast enough.

Why dont you like manuals?

I much prefer them to automatics, we have two autos - the Xm and a 2.5TDi Caravelle. In my opinion the Vw suits the auto box, its remapped and has a load of torque. The xm though im not so sure about, the gearbox doesnt change when i want it too and i often find myself putting it into 3rd manually just to get some pick up without having to use the kick down. Although when you do and keep it floored it will scream itself to 70 in 2nd gear!

Autos are a good gearbox for town use or in heavy traffic, but then the Xm drinks the petrol round town. Autos also sap power and economy.

Out of interest, what MPG do you get from your 2.0 auto? I get between 32 and 36MPG on average.

We have two dogs, they do fit in the Xms boot, but the sloping back window doesnt give them much room to stand up, and in the summer they are right under the rear glass so they get too warm. Which means we can't use it for the dogs, which goes some way to why the xm doesnt get a load of use.

I doubt we could bring ourself to sell the hatch, but we would like an estate - and a white one, with air con and a diesel would be the highest on the wishlist!

I cant decide which i like the look of more, i really like the indicator and reverse lights on the hatch, it looks more sporting like with the rear slope. Although the etstate is much bigger (about 10 inches?) much more useful and is a handsome estate car.

One of each would do nicely!

Aparently your not a true Xm owner if you dont have more than one anyway laugh.gif
