"Soon in a WHM near you!!"

Wow this Activa looks really cheap! About how much is this expected to make? Activas *have* to be one of the greatest high-tech-diamond bargains existing one can generally buy! I bet Citroen didn't think they'd have this luck...

btw. Why is it that Activas always look a bit taller than standard Xantias? Is it only because of the tyres, or do they indeed seat somewhat taller on their suspension?

cheers

I was tempted by that blue XM because I have an auto box sitting here.

When I saw it had 4 bald tyres, no tax or anything like that it put me right off.

Also at that finishing price I couldn't of contemplated keeping up.

If you look at the background in the pictures of the car it looks like the pictures were taken outside a Citroen Dealership.

I wonder if the owner sent it in asking what the repair would cost and told them to keep it??

I'm tidying up my Series 2 V6 and getting some of the niggles sorted to advertise the car in the first week or two of January.

My autobox works perfectly and is lovely and smooth smile.gif CitroenXM will back me up on this as I took him out in it this week.

The Barryboys or as I call them, the Activa Despatchers will normally stretch bidding to £400 which
is where this may get to! Hope it goes to an enthusiast as it's the pukka and unique to Activa flip
paint - Delage Red. There can't be too many left once you consider how many Pug morons are out
there Puggerising these truly amazing to drive fabulous cars...

The ride height seems to be a peculiarity for these, you're correct. Never worried me and in truth I
hadn't noticed really until you'd mentioned it here! The same wheels got fitted on an estate version
with the same TCT engine with the Xantia VSX hydractive but not the active anti roll and mine
doesn't sit so high so it must be an Activa 'thing'.

Get yourself an Activa now!! When they're gone, yes they're gone!!
Book early to avoid disappointment!!

Andrew

I hope WHM are putting this one back on the road. Im sure they have a few V6s about with a working gearbox, so atleast that could solve that problem, they also have a load of wheels so im sure the tyres can be sorted easily (fancy changing the tyres!!). Although it does have a nice interior, it may just be having the interior stolen for another car and then into the garden it grows! dry.gif

The Activa looks pretty tidy, apart from the scuff on the os. Its such a shame these cars are worth so little, they are getting increasinly rare every week, they were hardly a common xantia to start with!

I guess the problem with them is the price of its parts, anything major goes wrong and its going to be a big bill. So i supose that drags the price down, not many people would want to spend £1500-£2000 on one to find its going to need £600 of repairs to keep it going.

They are worth it though, again i dont think Citroen made enough of this suspension when it was current. Very few people will know about the Activas suspension, maybe not even some Activa owners!

Hi Andrew

I won the pug manual box for £20 as no one else bid and will pick it up this evening. It will enable me to compare it with the 2.5 box and see which XM's (if any) it would mate to.

Great stuff John. I was temptedto bid anyhow as I'll be in that general direction shortly!
Would like to see it fitting on a 60 degree engine block more than a 2.5 mind!!

Hi Andrew

I have a recovered 2.5 box ready to do a direct comparision. My main intention was to see if it used a hydraulic clutch, would mate up to a 90 degree V6 and also look at the how the gear ratios are achieved. I rather fancy a 2.5 that does somewhere around 75 in top at just under 2000 revs just to see how it improves the fuel economy.

Looking at the pictures of the box, it looks like the 4 top bolt holes are in line for the 60deg twin cylinder blocks and hence the 90 deg blocks may well not fit... this also leads me to beleve it wont go on a 2.5 without bell house mods...

Of course an "In the Flesh" comparison can beat a picture comparison...

Hi Paul

Looked it over as we put it into the back of the car. Bellhousing is very similar to a 2.5TD one. There is the same baynet hydraulic clutch entry hole in the same place as a 2.5TD one. It looks like the manual gear change connections are identical to a 2.5TD. I am pretty certain that it is a MG5B variant. Promising enough to want to look up the various Pug workshop sheets. I am hopeful that we may even be able to start a Kill a PUG to save an XM campaign. There are a few V6 PUG exclusive equivalents on ebay at present and they do not seem to be selling as well as XM's. The leather seats look very similar and do not fetch XM prices. Have already done a bit of a check on the 2.5TD version of the Pug 605 and found lots of common part numbers and a few adjacent ones and the odd real difference. Head gasket was a difference example where the XM seems to use a metal one while the PUG uses a pressed fibre one. The oil filter was an adjacent example as both had the same OE part number on them but different PSA numbers and either Citroen or Peugeot markings.

Good news about the offer on the red one, i hope they get it and look after it, it certainly looks like one of the better ones.

Shame about the silver one, although the mileage would put some poeple of that.

John,

Did you ever get any sense out of the Peugeot gearbox and its viability as a mate for
a 2.5 or 60 degree v6? Just wondering if a 24v v6 could be relatively painlessly converted
into a manual as my original thoughts were with the Xm WHM bought...

...says the man who's just bought a 4HP20 gearbox'd Xantia v6! blink.gif wacko.gif sad.gif dry.gif

Hi Andrew

It is sat in a corner with a 2.5 box alongside it. Both use the same hydraulic clutch in the same place. I think there may be some differences in the casing shape where it mates to the engine and when I get a chance I will try it up against a spare 2.5 engine to check fit. Have not got a V6 to try it against but next time I deliver to Paul I will take it if there is room in the estate and get him to try mating it to a V6 block. I am satisfied that PSA made cars with all these options. It is just that I need to check the Citroen/Pug parts manual to find out if each variation of MG5T box used a different outer casing. Because of the illogical way they allocate, change and duplicate part numbers not the easiest of tasks. If it was one standard casing or it can be easily modified to fit then the swap has real potential just gearing issues. Otherwise we are looking for a supply of box shells which might just turn up surplus the way things are these days.

My main interest at the moment is that I want to see if I can easily regear the top two or three gears to improve the 2.5 fuel economy by getting it down to just below 2000 revs at 70mph. There is also a further version of this MG5T box with mechanical clutch fitted to Relay and Boxer vans that I need to check out.

Will let you know what I find out.

John
