Hi Guys.
Just acquired a truck (1988) with a 2 litre, carburettor Peugeot petrol engine, which apparently they used to the end of the run in '94 and was originally in the 405 (??). Anyone know anything about them -- do I need to be frightened ? Never even seen one before. Mike. -------------------- XM 2.5VSX Estate RP 7185

From the era of manufacture the only petrol units I imagine PSA had available were the
old Douvrin 2.0 carb unit found in Renault 20/25 various Saab and Volvo models and Pug 505 and Cit CX. There was of course the XU unit found in the Xm and younger Pug models but I don't expect this would find it's early way into this generation of French cars! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Douvrin_engine Get yourself a Renault 20 or 25 manual. Forgot to mention:
In Cx's they can be prone to popping head gaskets and have a rubber belt so watch these. The Carb always seemed to be awkward to set and the jets get blocked but a decent inline fuel filter and a close look at the jets and carb's own inline filter will keep it happy - this is more down to poor servicing in the past rather than bad design etc. Easy enough engine to work on though. The starter and alternator can sometimes give grief but are easy to access and seem to be regular finds for little money on ebay. Andrew |
