  The only Cits using LHM I have owned were the DS, the CX, the BX and the XM. Hydraulic suspension first appeared on the rear suspension of the Traction Avant. Did this model use brake fluid for the brakes? -------------------- 2000 XM 3.0 V6 24v Exclusive Auto 70k km (LHD; ORGA 8569)

We have a Hydraulic traction - and no i dont think it did. Originally the traction and early DS models ran on a red version of LHM. Anyway ours now runs on the green LHM. Red i believe gave a slightly softer ride, however the traction is so floaty it often reaches its full suspension movement, both up and down, when driving. The front suspension on the 6H was also softened, to improve the overall ride. It does ride very softly indeed. Apparently it's not uncommon for people to use brake fluid instead of LHM due to ignorance, or as an emergency solution in the event of a breakdown. So this test will tell u if your "brand new" purchase has/has ever had brake fluid used in its veins. Does this work with both the old castor based brake fluid and the newer synthetic type?
As an aside, more years ago than I care to remember as a very young, impecuneous (and ignorant) aircraft mechanic, I topped up my castor-based car brake system with aircraft hydraulic fluid OM15 - Oil Mineral, geddit?
