Activa suspension!!! Now that's a good call!! Don't give me ideas, I'm hoping to convert an Activa
TCT estate to full Activa spec...

Andrew

An XM Activa? This shouldn't be impossible! Are the two cars' antiroll bars any similar in shape/size??

Is your XM as soft as it should be ??

...Well, again: is it ???

Mine is not as good...but quite near!

I think im right in saying its the DSs full beams which turn? Meaning your main beam still points straight on. Unlike the C6 which just has the whole lot turn?

I hate rain sensing wipers, they often get messed up, so not for me. Id rather do them myself.

Sorry - mee stoopit forrinner.

I was thinking that dipped beams were dipped beams, and full beams were main beams.

Re: the rain sensor: the one on my Avensis always functioned close to flawlessly. Only very occasionally there would be an unnecessary wipe, and it never missed when it was necessary.

Sometimes you do get cars where the rain-sensing wipers work in tune with your brain, the ones on my E38 7-Series being memorable for being that good. I don't think I touched the on, off or intermittent settings the whole time I had the car.

Unfortunately, the same can't be said of my C5. I am ALWAYS tapping the stalk to make it wipe, and am CONSTANTLY playing silly games to see if I can drive another 10 metres in drip-o-vision in the hope it'll kick in and save me from the nearest tree.

No, I don't do that on busy roads, I ain't stoopid wacko.gif

The only time the Citroen's automated system is of any use is when you come to a halt and it reduces the wipe frequency - though I believe any equivalent non-sensing system does the same anyway.

Moan over for the day

Any CX gen?

That hideous Jensen XM design has that feature too, pity the rest of the car looks like an elephant sat on it.

Missed this Ciarán; not sure what you mean here - worrying as the letters 'Cx' are nearly in
the same sentence? huh.gif

Andrew

I mean that the vandalised Jensen XM has the rear wheels covered like a CX, about it's only redeeming feature really.

I hate rain sensing wipers, they often get messed up, so not for me. Id rather do them myself. Likewise auto headlamps, we have them on other cars, (which also have auto wipers - a right pain!) the auto function is always turned off, they always come on too early and always on full headlights, when only sidelights are needed. Pointless gimmick in my opinion.

Hmm a wish list for an Xm would be:

2.5Td VSX Estate: (for practicality reasons, otherwise id have a hatch)
- web alloy wheels
- digi climate
- heated seats (but not leather!)
- a function which relocks the car if you unlock it but dont open the door (the Xms key is far to sensitive!)
- 6 disc Cd player
- Better safety kit
- Cruise
- Lower profile tyres )less flex when pressing on)
- Working digi readouts!
- More hidden storage

All pretty basic, ordinary things really.

- But most of all, id like an XM with Activa suspention biggrin.gif

...Higher profile tyres - more comfort. biggrin.gif

A brilliant feature the coat hook. Not that mine have ever been used! But they are a nice idea nevertheless.

The same can not be said for rather garish pink and yellow Xms in with your video! Horendous! ohmy.gif

I've never driven a C6, but I've driven my DS on mountain roads, and the directional main beams were a godsend. But I do think that the cornering lights on the Clio are a good idea too - much simpler.

The concave rear screen served a purpose, at least on the CX: the rear screen was always clean... for some aerodynamical reason, rain just blew off.

And while the standard speakers are very nice (I would say, almost as nice as the standard Avensis speakers, which is a huge compliment since these are stellar), there IS a noticeable drop-off below, I'd say, 120 Hz. The little Pioneer thingy fills the gap quite nicely. The fact that you can adjust the cutoff frequency does the trick - if it would go all the way up to 200 Hz, there would ne a nasty peak.

It's not an Avensis in terms of sound, though, but that is due to the fact that the DSP in the Avensis preamp and the speakers (and in fact the entire acoustical environment of the car) are supposedly finely tuned (which it should be, since you cannot get the Avensis without, or with any other, audio setup). But with a bit of tweaking, it comes fairly close.

I drove a DS with the swiveling lights in Japan on its notorious mountain roads for some time . It was an interesting fad, but really not too impressive. They don't allow you to look around the bends. That's why they did not survive on later models.

Several things could be the cause of our differences in perception:

1. the Jap specs may have been different from the French specs, or
2. Japanese nights aren't as pitch-dark as French nights wink.gif wink.gif wink.gif
3. I am comparing it with different cars. I swear to God that, after doing them French mountain roads with a '70's Beetle, doing the same bits of road with a DS was a huge difference.
When I was young, headlights were rather feeble, and you could use all the help you could get.

I still feel uncomfortable when I see the term Jap being used.
But that aside my DS was equipped with French/European spec lights.
I can see you were enlightened when comparing apples with lemons, uhh, beetles with citroens dry.gif

Seriously: Is "Jap" perceived as derogatory? It wasn't meant to come across like that. I have a Japanese motorcycle that I describe that way, and I'm proud of it and chuffed with it, too.

But seriously: in 1967, when the swiveling lights were introduced, headlights were noticeably feebler than the H4 units that rose to prominence from 1983 onward.

Get a VSX, I've been making use of them quite a bit recently. Still prefer to drive the Prestige without them though, if it ever runs again...

Xm motoring isn't complete without coathooks!

But hang on, how about a working glovebox handle AND strut that's damped to swoosh open
in it's own inimitable cool style...
