reading all the talk of the desire of the xm i was thinking what mods i've added to mine and what i could possibly want for in a car...

I've not added much above the exclusive spec:
* stereo and gps
* headlamp protectors
* extra light in the boot
... and thats it

well i would want:
* driver seat memory function
* auto closing windows when you lock the car
* dual zone climate
* parking sensors perhaps (although i find the tow bar works just the same!)
... but again, what else does any brand new limo offer

perhaps some up to date safety features but apart from that not bad for a 14 yr old car.

what else has anybody added?
i doubt this forum will reply with any fat bore tailpipes, dodgy decals, fluffy dice, etc.

The VSX comes with most things you could possibly as standard, and a number that I don't. Unless you want dual zone heating, then you have to get an SX! unsure.gif

What I've added:

- small under-chair subwoofer
- radio
- Parrot carkit
- phone holder
[edit]
- sat nav, but that's really TomTom on my HTC.

What I'd like (on top of what Gav wants):
- rain sensor on wipers
- xenon headlights
- a preheater
[edit]
- main beams that turn with the steering wheel (god, how could I forget that!)

I have that, well, its a programmable feature of the alarm. I keep meaning to wire it up... one of these days....

As for what else I would add, well the carputer I've been meaning to build for years, HUD, and twin tail pipes (one subtle one each side).

Other than that it doesn't want for much spec wise.

Hi all

Just to add to the discussion I would like the following:

Lap and diagonal belt in the middle at the back (3 Kids!!!), I suppose the car was designed in the 1980's when these things only appeared in Volvos

Stretched 'Prestige' version like a CX (Kids also Q tall), I suppose if there was a longer wheelbase then the estate could be truly HUGE.

Bigger boot (in the saloon as I prefer the looks of a saloon) although for holidays I use a roof box and it all fits OK.

apart from that I love 'em.

funny you mention the 3 seats. we have the same problem but they are all under 4yrs and needing car seats. they fit, but the outer ones sit at an odd angle which is not ideal. hence my wife has (an unbelievably boring but practical for 3 kids) xsara picasso. ideally i'd have an estate xm 2.5td exclusive with rear facing seats in the boot.

the roof box we have is the longest on the market, about 2.3m, which looks in proportion on the xm but ridiculous on the picasso. at least we cant see it from inside! well, thats not strictly true but...

I like the idea of the remote control engine starting that comes with a lot of alarms now - great for cold winter mornings - has anyone fitted one?
I had one in my old S1 2.0, but never connected it up because it had a manual gearbox, I would only fit one to a car with an auto box.

Also, a heated stearing wheel.

Cup holders.

Headlights that turn with the steering wheel.......I bet if any car manufacturer ever thought of an idea that good they'd stick with it......... unsure.gif

ABS light that doesn't come when the ABS is working properly.

Flux capacitor........ rolleyes.gif

As Citroen forgot to fit them:
A sunroof and headlights that all actually work rather than ones that
sometimes/marginally do... sad.gif

...and a proper longer wheelbase Xm Safari not the pretend one.

Possibly some more visually ballsier 16" rims that aren't too thin
and spindly...

just thought of another decent add on...

proper rear wheel bodywork which cover the wheels and give a lovely unspoiled streamlined look.

Any CX gen?

That hideous Jensen XM design has that feature too, pity the rest of the car looks like an elephant sat on it.

Hi all

Well, i have added sat nav, stereo with remotes, boot sub (although i dont have it in the car much now), dvd running through the stereo system with remotes, speed camera detector, variable delay intermitant wipers, 17" rims and triple lamp conversion.

I want to get the remote start alarm with all the bells and whistles, such as the self closing windows aswell, Hid the triple lamps and a club xm sticker wink.gif

With the big hip just above the rear wheel, spats would be far too heavy visually. The
Cx's window line is a constant level and the cut up of the bodywork through the spat|
creates a sharpening of shape where the spats work well - a Cx doesn't work without
them IMHO.

OK, the SM had a hip in the vicinity but the panel flow lines swept through carrying
off the shape and in fact the spat was quite small in area...

...THE XM NEEDS THE WHEEL CUT OUTS AT THE BACK!!

It's this one I'm on about...
http://www.pioneer.co.uk/uk/products/25/13...X11A/specs.html
8 cm (that's... errrr... approx. 3 inches) high.

You won't win any "loudest car" contests with it, and it won't break windows, but at normal listening levels (well, normal for the sedate, sensible person that is an XM driver), it adds just that bit of authority you would miss.
Or maybe you wouldn't.
Well, I would. At home, I run true full-range floorstanding Infinity's, fed by a big fat Rotel main amp.
