My XM is silver but I think white is by far the best colour for an XM followed closely by black.

And yes Andmcit those 407s aren't great. We've got one as a pool car at work and when it's not at the garage having various bits fastened back on we fight over the right not to use it!

QUOTE (Citroenmad @ Nov 18 2008, 17:41 PM)
What rims are you wanting for it? Xm ones?

The ones I want are described here quite often as the 'wobbly web' rims, but XMExclusive tells us that Citroën denominated them as the "Etoile".

And I've found a set already, so I'm chuffed!

Re. all the colour remarks:

I think that the basic design of the XM screams for a paint colour that contrasts with the ribbon of glass... so that would be either silver grey or white.
While I NORMALLY do not like white cars , the XM is not a NORMAL design. I think the lady wears white very well. It's just that it is very hard to find white in our neck of the woods. The only white XM I have ever seen is on pictures on this forum.

Now there's a funny thing; I've recently also started seeing lots and lots of images
of white Xm's, but now it seems to be spreading and there are more and MORE
silver and red one's appearing everywhere too...

No... just more white and silver XM's, that's all. Do that and you'll be fine, trust me.

The only car I've ever owned where an elderly lady approached me and said "That's a lovely colour" was Mandarin Red.

Does nobody like green cars?

Well I do Derek.

I was brought up with a green s5 Sunbeam Alpine and a Rover SD1, which are still around
incidentally! Now they're joined by a host of others and my favorites seem to be biased to
green coloured ones:

A now rather scruffy but still gorgeous CX 2.4 GTi man 82 vintage
if swordfish grey counts x2 more Cx's
at least x3 Xantiae estates (best Xantia colour is green!)
and a pair of s1 Xm's!!

I do like silver but lately it's popularity has made it too samey...

To be fair i will have any colour and love it especialy dark ones but i like silver, black, gold, green and blue the best..................white? well i can see where you are all coming from it does show off the overall shape of the car better and the small details but i had a white car before and hated it so much, the main reason being that after it rained or after washing it i always got black streaks running down from the window rubbers, it shows dirt like mad and you could spend ages waxing the living daylights out of the thing and you could never stand back and admire the shine like a dark car which i always found a little dissapointing.
On the other hand white doesnt show water marks or streaks from improperly applied wax though.

Actually, I find the small details and styling features get lost a bit in white as much as it could
be argued a dark coloured Xm will. The optimum colour for showing off a car's lines is silver
- no accident that a lot of cars look good in this colour as the manufacturer's design studios
use this colour to work on their design! Certainly the norm when I was at Ford's Design Studio
a few years back now!

I do, but only if they're English. With cream interior, please.

Mandarin red is VERY nice - my favorite ever Xm (the one that self combusted) was
this colour and I loved it - I'm sure the colour (and the alloys) made the car that much
better for me. Know where you're at too Dean!

Dean you should have cleaned your window rubbers! Ive never had that problem with the Xm.

In most cars i hate white, it just looks like a huge blob of white car. However i think the Xm suits it well, its a brilliant white rather than a creamy white. I did have a white AX and parking it next to the Xm, the Ax was cream!

The Xm suits it mainly because it has a lot of black trim to break up the coliur, something i think s needed in every bright colour. Darker shades can hide the cars shape, so another reason i like the white on the Xm, every detail is picked out.

I used to think white cars would be a pain to live with, constantly needing washing and polishing etc. However the colour i now hate is black, ok it may seem like a good idea before you buy the car, black hides some of the detail on cars (which is a good thing on some models!) it makes the car look very smooth as a result and it shines like a mirror if nicely polished.

However, when i bought my black Seat i didnt count on the fact that it shows every chip, scratch, buff mark, spec of dirt and looks horrid unless its just been cleaned. I try my best to keep it clean, polished so the buff marks are gone and try to keep it scratch free - its not easy!

The paint also seems very soft too, my 6 year old Seat has a million chips and light scratches, the white 12 year old Xm has no visible scratches or chips, the paint is much harder wearing.

Ill never buy another black car, EVER!

I do like bright red cars, non metallic. If only the Xm came in flat red!

If im 100% honest, i really like the lightish blue colour on S2 Xms. I forget what its called now and i dont have the brochure to hand, but i think xantias were available in the same colour. DrTim has a Turbo in that colour. Also silver is a great colour for the Xm.
