Looks like it could make a good daily hack.
Although something like that is in danger of being broken for parts If someone is not bothered about the bodywork, the rest of the things are pretty straight forward, fairly cheap jobs. Im sure a used exhaust could be sourced cheap just to get it through its next MOT. -------------------- 1995 'N' XM 2.1TD VSX Manual Estate, magenta red - 62K miles

Hi All
We have talked about this one in another thread. MoT will last about 2 months and it looks a real problem to get through with that bodged cill. From the very early batch of Mk2's. Thinking about a bid as it is close handy and drivable. John -------------------- An interest in 2.5TD's.

Is the cill damage an MOT failure you think?
I wasnt sure how bad damage can to make it a failure. I thought as long as it had no sharp objects haning off you were ok? Although if its structural then thats another matter. -------------------- 1995 'N' XM 2.1TD VSX Manual Estate, magenta red - 62K miles

Hi Citroenmad
The whole XM body shell is made up of a series of thin steel pressings so to the MoT man they are all structural and any cill rust holes can be enough to fail the car. The glued glass is also structural so in theory an XM could be failed if presented for test with a broken window. Four of my Mk2's have needed MoT weld repairs so far and I have scrapped one 1996 car body shell as too far gone to repair. That is roughly half my XM's. Hmm it may be better as a parts donor maybe!
Mine needs a bit of a fix on the front of the passenger cill, just a small rust patch which will probably be a hole if left until next MOT (May time i think). So its going into a repair place i know well next week for this. Im surprised how much they do suffer from rust, thats the only bit on mine, but i have heard of a few, just like you mention. Have you ever had many problems with rust on the bodywork? So you have around 8 Xms!?? Id love to know how many and what types people on here actually own, its facinating! I was flicking through readers rides the other day and came across a few of Andrews cars on there, looked lie quite a few around and about the pictures cars too. One being a silver Xantia with a black roof?! I wish i had an extensive collection of Xms, i can dream -------------------- 1995 'N' XM 2.1TD VSX Manual Estate, magenta red - 62K miles

Hi Citroenmad
Current count is 7 and all are 2.5's just 2 cars and 5 estates. About 15 years worth if I carry on doing the same annual mileage. John -------------------- An interest in 2.5TD's.

Thats what i like to hear, Xms being used!
Such a shame when they are put off the road and then get too bad to be used again. So you stock pile them until you need to replace your daily one? Very nice idea. -------------------- 1995 'N' XM 2.1TD VSX Manual Estate, magenta red - 62K miles

Works for me too... you need to space though. Actually, in some cases the Xm in question was one of these infamous uneconomic to repair or 'is it really worth bothering to sort the leaky heater matrix...' cars. Andrew |

Hi Citroenmad
Summer and winter cars too. Why hit the underside of your best low mileage cars with road salt. Costs a couple of months extra tax a year, extra MoT's and insurance swapping but well worth it. John -------------------- An interest in 2.5TD's.

Even i will admit thats possibly not worth putting right, best used for bits maybe!
Ah nice idea, i would very much like to be able to do that! Ive got to say, our Xm does not get used over the winter months. Im still using it now, but once the salt hits the road it will be resting up over the winter - as it has done every winter over the last 6 years. Its not used as a daily car, we have 7 cars, 6 of which are on the road and always taxed, MOT'd and insured. The traction is still off the road but we now have all the bits needed, so a winter project which should be going by the weather gets better next year! So yes the Xm has a rest over winter, as does the 6 wheel van too. The Xm and the van are more hobby vehicles now, so they are not needed for every day use. However i have been using the XM a lot recently, ive forgotten i even have a daily car -------------------- 1995 'N' XM 2.1TD VSX Manual Estate, magenta red - 62K miles
