An awful lot more than you paid for it! If its in good condition i bet you could easily get atleast £1500 for it, it is one of the last afterall. -------------------- 1995 'N' XM 2.1TD VSX Manual Estate, magenta red - 62K miles

I think I've confused myself too.... Ok, the existing wheels on my S1, aren't 24v ones then I take it? I mistook the weird slotted ones with the plastic cap for the 24v ones, they're obviously not, and the ones on the ebay XM we're discussing, are. It's all down to how we all define them!
I'd call these the original SEi alloys found on the s1: ![]() These are s1 24v rims: ![]() these are the Wobbly web ones: ![]() and these are the Exclusive 'Minilite' style: ![]() and these are original Citroen optional rims: ![]() Andrew |

Andrew...
REMEMBER: the 24v rims arent JUST 24v rims, they are originally 24v rims, and then they became SEi standard rims from 1992/3.. and the originals were dropped... Its the only alloy I like I got a set on all 3 cars... I do like the "mini lite" alloys, but I heard storys of not being able to balance them properly, and air leaks.. Hi All
Using the citroen names for the alloy wheels make things a little easier to be sure that you are all talking about the same type of alloy wheel. The original launch RHD Mk1 XM's had steel wheels. Alloys were an at cost option for all models. This "original XM" alloy is the one with the numerous little uncleanable blocks and the large plastic disk centres. A very few of the early produced cars got pressed aluminum disk centres as these were actually a standard fitting on one of the other citroen cars. These original alloys were only produced for the first two years of XM production. In September 1991 two new types of Alloy wheel were introduced for the XM range. The new V6-24valve car came with a alloys with a pattern parallel angled bars near the outer rim. Citroen described these alloys as "24 valve" At that time they were not available for fitting to any other XM models. The V6 trim level 4 car (SEi in the UK) was fitted with "Etoile" alloys. They were an at cost option on trim level 1, 2 & 3 cars. The etoile alloys are the ones with five very flat ellipse shape hole around the outer rim. When the Estate version of the XM was introduced at the end of February 1992 steel wheels were standard on both versions (trim level 1+ & trim level 3). The Etoile alloys were available as an at cost option. The option was widely taken up judging by the number about. In late 93/early 94 to clear the last of the Mk1 XM's produced after the Mk2 facelift had been announced for the 1995 model year a good number of the former at cost options got cascaded down and supplied as free extras fitted to the lower trim level cars. Examples were SEi's got V6 alloys and a special run of trim level 2 cars got etoile alloys, leather and prestige badges. At launch of the Mk2's Exclusive models were fitted with "24 valve" alloys and "Etoile" alloys were available as a cost option on lower spec Mk2 cars and estates. In mid 1995 for the 1996 model year the Mk2 exclusives got fitted with the 10 spoke "Monte-Carlo" alloys. The option for "Etoile" alloys on the other models continued. The major technical difference with new "Monte-Carlo" alloy was that it had no centre hole making it not possible to get balanced except at a depot possessing the special Citroen fitting for the balancing machine. In 1998 there was no change to the appearance and usage of the XM alloy wheels but there was a final technical change to the alloy wheels to take a modified wheel bolt that could fit both steel and alloy wheels. This enable Citroen to supply standard steel wheels with alloy fitted XM's instead of a special steel to take the flat faced alloy bolts. The new "Etoile" wheel did of course catch up with the Monte-Carlo wheel with the change to a solid centre and the associated balancing difficulties. The "New Etoile" wheel can be spotted simply because it has no small plastic centre cap. There was no visual difference with the "Monte-Carlo" alloy so to make sure the wrong bolts were not fitted the name was changed to "Ville de Monte-Carlo" and you can find these name embossed radially just inside the spokes under the dirt on the inside of the alloy wheel. Hi Bitontheside
Thanks, just not interested in any other cars but still had to check most of the detail with the workshop manual. Seems sensible for me to find out how to add a few photos and then move it to the self help section. John -------------------- An interest in 2.5TD's.

Hi John,
Thanks for that very detailed description of the wheels, you have laid a lot of speculation / confusion to rest. So from your description, my S1 has the 'original' SEI alloys. One thing though, the 'Etoile' wheels you describe, as they the 'starfish' / 'wobbly web' ones? Cheers Ciarán -------------------- '95 XM 2.1TD VSX Hatch: RP 6429. Rare green ;-)

You are correct apart from the fact that the arm rest works. |

Hi Ciaran
Sadly my XM education has never stretched to understanding which wheels are "starfish" ones and which are the "wobble-web" ones. Currently I am still using "Monte-Carlo's" but if this is to continue much longer I will have to buy another later exclusive car with good tyres on it. Otherwise I will have to start using the stockpiled "Etoile's" or heaven forbid buy some new tyres. At current prices XM's are not fetching the price of 5 good servicable tyres. I gave Paul my only set of 24 valve ones last time he came because I took against the look of them. Either that or the tyres were a bit worn or not matched pairs. Theres no reason for the arm rest NOT to work, its an identical electrical and motor set up as a Window winder, and only really a switch that could cause its malfunction... Are we missing something, or am I, or did you not offer the car on this fourm before ebay... We werent sure if you were a member on here or not.... EDIT: Ah I see you have just joined us after selling... will you be buying another??
