QUOTE (Citroenmad @ Nov 10 2008, 22:55 PM)
I dont want to say too much, as Dan at WHM is very helpful and i dont want to say anything bad. However i dont think he knew about the problem we found. Under its boot floor carpet was soaked in water & sand, it was rusty around the seams of the boot floor, small puddles of water under the rear seats and the seats were mouldy, it looked like it had been wet for some time. Plus a few other issues. Spheres were totally spent, but they would be done for its new owner.

Sheesh. Sounds like a dog. An overpriced dog. Sorry to hear your journey was a wasted one sad.gif

I agree with Phil. The car sounds like it should be offered at half the price quoted and
probably was in a local paper or ebay...

That sort of money which you're prepared to spend, should get you something with a lot
more feel good factor and I even wonder whether the car was sitting in the long undergrowth
'storage pound' half an hour before the place opened it's gates for business that day.

From your comments, I'd suggest it wasn't the price (high as it seems) that really put you
off it either!!

Unfortunately i think it is a bit of a dog, still a usable car but i doubt it will ever be anything than a hack to take things to the tip or wahtever, it certainly would not be a joy to own like the hatch is.

The thing with Xms now is they are worth so little, that even doing small jobs soon built up to the cars value, so you end up paying twice for the car. Even the simple things (not mentioning the bigger ones!) that the estate needed, like both its remove keys were broken, thats getting on for £100 by the time you have sourced good ones, got new blades as they looked work etc etc. It just was not worth buying, even if he would let it go for a lower price.

Odd thing is, its advertised at £1295 on ebay, which its not worth. However in this current monts Citroenian its up for £1850 - i really think for that money i should be able to find a near perfect example!

I went with the intention of paying the asking price, had it been a great car. So no the price would have been fine if the car was!

My search goes on, ill have to get to more Citroen events, ive often seens Xms advertised at shows, which is possibly the perfect place to buy a car, since you can see it straight away in the metal. You would also think CCC member will look after them.

im in no rush for an estate, so ill see what turns up smile.gif

Another reason why 2.5 heat up fast is that the intercooler is a water to air type.

There's plenty of photos here of the car. http://www.flickr.com/photos/7328220@N02/s...57601599817022/

It was up for sale earlier this year but with the crunch it wasn't going to fetch anything worth having so I haven't tried since.

Steve.

We know what all the insides look like in areas where Angels would fear to tread but as a sales pitch,
some general shots of the exterior would help get pulses (and wallets) racing! laugh.gif cool.gif

Sales pitch, Hmm, I suppose I've got to sell it but I'm very reluctant due to the amount of effort I've put into it. If I could have found a 2.1 Exclusive 'saloon' when I had the money I wouldn't have bought the C5.

All XMs are kit form, either when you buy them or shortly afterwards! ;-)

Steve.

You know something's wrong when the XM does more MPG than the C5! Can't fix the C5 myself so it'll have to go in.

Clean it thoroughly and use black silicone sealant.

All this talk of the 2.5 diesel being faster than greased leopard meant I had to find out the numbers. And I have to say, 129bhp in a car that weighs more than the 170bhp V6 does point to diesel having magic properties yet again tongue.gif
