No, I don't think they're too wayward on price there. Over the last six months I've really come round to liking white cars and think both the XM and CX look great in it.
Will be interested to read the report of your trip, particularly as every time I've spoken with the guy at Wolsey he's come across as a disinterested bastard who doesn't like taking sales calls. It's the one thing that has so far prevented me making any effort to trip up there and see his cars, grumpy old sod. GmbH is Gesellschaft mit beschraenkter Haftung. Good, i was beginning to worry that they had some kind of reputation or something! I dont know anything about them, other than they always advertise in the Citroenian. I seem to think they only stock good quality Xms, so i hope its as nice as it sounded on the phone.
I think white Xms are one of the best colours (im not biased! I think price wise its about right, plus if it is a good one its worth it. The guy on the phone said that the price was what he wants and wont drop, we shall see. Although he did say it would be MOt'd for 12 months and the spheres checked. So just needs taxing. Ill let you know how it goes at the weekend. This post has been edited by Citroenmad on November 04, 2008 06:37 pm -------------------- 1995 'N' XM 2.1TD VSX Manual Estate, magenta red - 62K miles

When I said "I don't think they're too wayward on price there" the emphasis was intended for that one particular car. It has 'priced to clear!!!!' slapped under the description so knowing them probably started out at £2,995. The silver TD they have on Car and Classic UK: 2000 W XM 2.1 TD VSX AUTO , only 47k with full history! ![]() http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C65377 And they want £4,500 for it. They may even get it -------------------- 97 'R' XM 2.0i SX Saloon Auto

SIlver would be my second choice, they do suit silver very nicely. Silver is the best colour to live with, it always looks clean! Black is the worst, far worse than white even, i hate my black Seat, its such a pain to keep it looking ok. Plus white doesnt show scratches or chips, again my black car is bad for that. Yes, they are sometimes over priced, that silver one is quite high, although i too think it has a chance to sell for that. The white estate is a good price, iby the sounds of it its not perfect, living in london takes its toll i supose. As long as its nothing serious, which is doesnt sound like it needs much, then all can be put right over time. I hate anything not working on any of our cars, so it must be right eventually -------------------- 1995 'N' XM 2.1TD VSX Manual Estate, magenta red - 62K miles

Once you look past the obvious handicap of having an autobox fitted there's nothing
wrong with it... OK, there's quite a melodramatic rattle at idle which needs the spring damper on the aux belt idler wheel replacing - I've got a new one and the belt/idler ready to fit but haven't had time as the 24v v6 has been throwing it's toys out the pram lately! Lately I volunteered to save a 2.5TD VSX off a fellow lister here that's had a new heater matrix, a boot strut and a window mechanism to make a very nice car though will need to crack out the MIG this wwekend to sort the front nearside footwell for the MOT man. I decided to try Xm's to have a break from the older generation of needy 80's Cit's too. And I don't actively go looking for these things - they somehow find me!! In that case it really is a bargin!
I saw the pictures of your 2.5, it does indeed look very tidy. Cars rarely find us, the Activa and the Cx are the only ones which have. Both cars we knew before buying them, both cars were bought cheaply and used for a while before selling for more money. We did not intend to sell the Cx, but someone offered us 6 times what we paid, so it had to go! Im sure you could have a similar offer for your 2.1! Oh actually, the Xm found us too, had it not id probably not be on here now and would probably never have owned one. Its just made such an impression! Its that old saying, a car is only worth what someone is prepared to pay. Although, that may be a lot, or very little. -------------------- 1995 'N' XM 2.1TD VSX Manual Estate, magenta red - 62K miles

Must admit that I've always tended to be a bit prejudiced against any car that was White but have mellowed this attitude on getting myself a CX GTi Turbo2 and a Xantia estate in this colour! The beltline kick up on the windows with the Xantia looks really dynamic with the strong contrast in the naturally darkish glass against the bodywork - a set of metallic silver Activa alloys sets it all off nicely. Made me actually appreciate the look of the Xantia estate over the saloon that I had originally liked more on it's release! The Cx manages to look huge or surprisingly very compact dependent on the lighting and how much wheel she's showing too! the shape and general graphic and colour coding can make things very blobby (or booby!;)) Andrew |

All my CX safari's were white, well the first one was red with a black vinyl roof when I got it, looked like a hearse, so I resprayed it white, the other two were white when I bought them. The three cars I had previously were also white, a Cortina estate, Granada estate and a PC Cresta, all fitted with Perkins 4/108 diesel engines with Vauxhall overdrive gearboxes. But I still like white...

citroenmad,
if you do go visit i can offer a few words of advice as i did a v.similar thing several years ago. I had decided the spec i wanted and then just had to choose the engine and saloon/estate. I had been checking around for a few months to judge prices and conditions then saw one at WHM. I got a 2.5 exclusive saloon. I went up with the hope of picking it up that day (if i liked it, which i did). I must say i was impressed with the setup of the place, but likewise i can understand other peoples comments on here. With hindisght i am glad I did chose to see through the inital impressions. eg. the cars are not on a showroom forecourt, they are stored (dumped off the delivery trailer) until someone wants one then cleaned up and serviced for the sale. So dont expect lots of shiny things. At the time there were over a dozen cars to choose between and test driving any was possible no problem at all. After a side by side comparison of the 2.1 and 2.5 it was a no-brainer for me. I still have the car and have not looked back, but have spent a few hours with greasy hands since of course. Now, the deal was this... the price is what it is. No negotiations and short shrift if you ask (as i suspect i few have found out since). BUT they are more than willing to carry out work if you find something on the car that can geniunly be expected. On mine they couldnt find the service book at the time so i suggested they did the timing belt, etc which is critical on the 2.5 - they agreed without hesitation. I actually discussed a great many items inc. some welding and FULL servicing inc. parts. Again nothing was too much trouble. As a result i could not pick up the car that day so had to go back, but actually it worked for the best given the amount of servicing carried out. It may be that nowadays, with the comparative lack of spare parts, you will not be able to get all the servicing items you ask for. Atleast with the expertise available to you on this site you go pre-armed. I paid about the going rate at the time for an advertised top spec xm (£3k) - but saved a fortune in servicing which no other dealer selling an xm would even dare to offer. The obvious caviat is dont expect such an old car to be completly reliable regardless of any deal you get. good luck... and enjoy. (you might even be tempted by the cx's they probably still have!!!) -------------------- 2.5td Exclusive - Emerald green of course

Thanks for the info Gav.
Im not expecting it to be the best there is, as im sure they would have it up for more money. The cambelt on this one was done at 70K miles, so about 50K miles ago. So that wont need doing for another 20K miles? Ive asked about the clutch, they say that works fine and they believe its the original and can last anywhere up to 200K. However this car has lived in london for the past 7 years ... They say its had a recent service at a specialist with reciepts to prove. It cost £700 odd for the service. So im hoping thats ok. By the sound of it, it will be MOT'd and had the shperes gassed by the weekend. If something else needs doing then ill be more than happy to go back to pick it up. Although in an ideal world id like to take it on the day - if it is what i want and in good condition. Since it will be getting an MOT i suspect anything which is near to replacement time (tyres or whatever) will need to be changed. Ill give it a good look over and see if anything else needs doing, by what you say its best to get any needed work carried out rather than trying to haggle. It wont be an everyday car, more of a weekend car to take the dogs out, for longer trips etc. Our 2.0 has been ultra reliable over the last 6 years, never ailed anything. I hope the diesel is as good, reliability wise, although you do expect some things with the age and mileage. -------------------- 1995 'N' XM 2.1TD VSX Manual Estate, magenta red - 62K miles
